Default 3800 Bonneville got VQ'ified

This past Sunday (I just got around to posting it here):

So my boss at work is in the market for a new car. He said he wants something fast and exciting and he was thinking about a C6. But then he said, but the Evo 8 is faster than it. I said, "wha wha wha????" So he shows me this bullshit article from Forbes magazine (Forbes of all places) where the Evo and C6 were tested and the Evo posted a faster 0-60 time. I explained to him why Forbes is not where he should be looking for automotive info, and why it MIGHT be possible for a better 0-60 time, and then told him that we would test drive both cars. If after driving them he still thought the Evo was faster, I would give him $1000 towards the downpayment of his next car.

He kinda backed down from that, and then started talking about his current car, a Pontiac Bonneville with the 3800 V6. He said the 3800 is awesome and just went on and on about it... I told him he should drive a Nissan Altima and then tell me what he thought about the 3800 ...

Today as I am leaving the office, he tells me to take a ride with him in the Bonneville so he can show me the power of the 3800. No joke. I told him I have a better idea... let's race. I said that since I have the G35, I can show him what the 3.5 L VQ V6 can do. So we line up in the parking lot (it's pretty empty because it's Sunday). I stand on the gas and the brake, and when we go the AWD just grips and I'm off. hahahahaha... I instantly put like 2 cars on him and kept going. I hit about 70 and then backed it down... he came up next to me like, "DAMN!!!!! That's fast. What's in it again?" So I told him again...

lol... always fun to give a free lesson. I wonder what he would have thought if he tried to show me the "power fo the 3800" when i had the WS6 out... Now that would have REALLY been funny.

Actually, the G35 is available AWD (G35x), but I believe only as a 4 door. There was supposed to be plans for the coupe and also 350Z since they are basically the same, but as far as I know they havent done it. Still, even with the AWD I would think the Boneville would get the holeshot due to better low end and no real traction problem, but the higher revs would probably be its down fall. You are also comparing apples and oranges just due to physical size and the fact that the G35 is a more performance oriented coupe. Compare it to a SSEi or GTP Grand Prix and the outcome would likely be closer, and both of those are closer to the same price range.

Yeah, I just saw the power increase also, pretty impressive. I thought they were only 260. I would like to see the torque curve since it peaks at 4800. I wonder how flat it is before that.

I'm not a BS'er guys

lol...

anyways, The VQ 3.5L actually makes a pretty decent amount of torque. I'll be happy to post some more about it later when I get home from work.

He spun big time at the start which is where he probably lost out. The AWD just catapulted me into the lead
