Chalk one up for the lt-1, we race the other night coming home from work we raced twice, once on the highway and another time from a dig. Well as we were getting on the on ramp of the highway at 12 am (road was completely clear) i was in front of him going around the curve and as i got on the freeway i kept in in 3rd because i knew he was gonna try me so he gets next to me once on the e-way and he hit it and he pulled about a car on me because i wasnt expecting it and i spun a little from 55mph once underway i pulled the car that he took from me and put a car on him we continued until my car would no longer accelerate(damn 4.10s) and he walked right by me after 140mph. Once we got off the e-way we were able to get a light right next to each other and i asked him if he was gonna go and he said yeah so the light drop and we were both off he didnt really pull on me out of the hole like i though he was cause his car kinda bogged and i got a really really good lauch because i feathered the clutch almost perfectly, we were side by side out of the hole but after the LT hooked up it was history i pulled him by a car and a half up to 85mph. So there are the results for you guys. Those cars are god awfully quick from the factory though. He is getting a turbo back exhaust for his car soon so when that happens it will definately be a different story.

Nice kill man, I do agree from a roll a stock Evo is slow by comparision with an LS-1. I did race an LT-1 when I was totally stock and put about 7 on him by 130-140. There is a post on here about it from ages ago. A few little mods and the Evo gains back its lackluster topend pretty well. I myself never get pulled from a roll, I have been in close races but not beaten. It will happen someday, and I don't really care when it does, I just hope it is at least to a worthy car like an F-bod or cobra and not some turboed honda civic lol. Good kill again buddy.

I do not have a clip, it sounds good at idle, nice lope, nothing crazy, not nearly as good as an Ls-1 or Cobra with cams but none the less you know something is up. When people ask I just tell them it is missing . As overall sound goes, it is not ricey at all, sounds like a track car, loud but in an aggresive racy way. It will never sound as good as a throaty V-8, not even close. I said on here before I should record an LS-1's exhaust note and play it real loud when I am driving lol .

have you got cam gears to go with your 272 cams?

just curious, ive got stock cams now and bought a set of cam gears, hoping to move my peak power from 6400 rpm to about 7000 with a -5/-5 adjustment and some tuning.

I had all my tuning done at turbo trix in jersey, talked it over with jeff and he said, not worth it at all. at most you will gain like 5 hp, be careful jow much you move your powerband around, don't want it all to be up top. with no cam gears my peak power is around 6700.

If the EVO is stock and he sucks at driving, you might have a chance. Once you start modding an EVO, you better watch out. They have great potential to be really REALLY fast.

Anything has potential to be fast with money. Yes, it doesn't matter what it is.

Thanks for the obvious comment.

What I intended to say was that EVO's have VERY good potential from the factory. They come boosted already and has AWD. Cams, internals, turbo upgrade and some other knick knacks will make it push over 400WHP easy and be able to run sub 11's and break 10's.

What I'm trying to say is that these cars are not to be taken lightly.

I thought their trannies were pretty weak, no?

And I definitely haven't heard of any Evo drivers having to build up their motors any more than factory (if that's what you meant by internals)..

The tranny is rock-solid. Though the jury is still out on the new 6spd tranny for the MR. Anyway, it's the front diff that you need to worry about during hard launching and the clutch when slipping. We have a pretty weak stock clutch, it's fine for normal driving and some track work, but when exposed to constant launching it gives real quick. Not to mention the rear independent suspension is great for twisties, but not so ideal for drag. Arguably, I believe that the Evo is simply not built for drag racing and only people w/ plenty of money to spend on it build one up as such. The 05's have a helical front LSD and std rear LSD. But they also have an active center differential that some people worry about w/ lots of abused launching. The jury is still out on that as well.

As far as switching internals, the valve train components (cams, gears, etc) are swapped out all the time. But the internals themselves are very very strong and able to withstand 500+ whp and plenty of boost. Though some do swap out connecting rods, engine bolts and remove balance shafts. Very few actually do any head work

interesting, i just got a dyno with cam gears, and i gained 51 whp with tuning and retarding the timing on the gears.
