Default ls1vette vs moded eclipse gst

my boostaholic friend has a convertible eclipse, and we decided to see how well its gonna do against my vette,
his mods are
jap spec engine with sixteen big snail, same one evo has, also
full exhaust and bunch of pulleys,
boostin 29psi, his car dynoed 317 to whls on 93oct @23psi,
i was pretty impressed
all i have on my car is cold air intake, and its an auto.

so heres the race
we do it from 45 mi roll
he would pull on me about a car till 90 then as soon as he shifts to 4th, i start to reel him in by about 120 i put a good car lenghts on him.
we were both amazed with each othrs cars.
any idea how much my car would dyno about? with just a cold air intake.

I have no idea what kind of numbers vettes put down, I'd say around 310? Anyways nice run with a DSM.

Your going to put down the same as any ls1 powered vehicle with a cold air intake. Considering your an auto I'd say circa 310.

if he was boosting 29 psi on a 16g he has problems. #1 16g won't hold 29. may spike it but won't hold #2 if it is boosting 29 and only laying down 317 somethings screwed up majorly cuz it should be 400+ with ease.

THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING WHEN I SAW THAT, THEN I READ FURTHER AND GOT TO THE 317HP, KINDA DREW A FLAG. SOMEONE IS SMOKIN THE CHIBA

I have to agree completely....I had a Super 16G from Hahn Racecraft spoolin to 24psi on my ex's GST. I doubt a regular one would ever pull to 29.....also the JDM Eclipse powerplants are the same as the american ones...only real difference is the intake/TB set-up. Can we get some ACTUAL specs on the actual Eclipse that was run?

29 PSI is a shitload of boost to be makin 310hp???

yep the only different "jap spec" engine was the cyclone and the only difference was intake and valve cover. and the intake is crap.

The Big 16 G in the Evo can't hold 29 psi. My car spikes to 27 psi then tapers to 22 psi by redline, buddies Evo does the same thing. I don't know what his mods are but 317 might be about right, maybe a little light.

i just talked to my buddy, he has a sixteen big turbo, and it came with the japspec engine, its slightly bigger thAN 16 G
my cousin was with him WHEN we raced and witnessed that he was using 29 psi droppin down to 24 by redline.
his car dynoed 317 on stock injectors, now that he replaced them with bigger ones alowes to use moooore boost.

i have owned 4 dsms in my lifetime, all 1g dsm's, and ill tell you now there is no 7 bolt motor, especially stock motor that can handle 29psi...hell a stock 6 bolt motor can't even handle that kind of boost..not to mention a big16g will not make or hold 29psi...im running a precision 60 trim on my 1g dsm and 30-35psi is about the limit on it..a 16g does not compare...with a proper setup however at a respectful boost 20-22psi he could easily make 350-370 whp on a 16g...nice run though

He needs to tune his car or add fuel. Don't run him from a dig without a 50 HP advantage, that is, if he can launch. BTW, Nice kill on the DSM.

Good race with the GST. FWD DSM's are no joke from a roll and 45 mph is just about the sweet spot for him in 2nd gear. I'm still wondering how conservative a tune the guy had to have to make 317 @ 23psi on pump. 4g63's love boost and race gas. Still, I've seen them make well over 400 to the tires on pump gas but those probably had a lot more supporting mods than your buddy did. Be careful if he wants to try you again and you smell race gas in the air.

Sounds like he took you in the quarter. Both sound like good runs!

Gotta love the DSMs, I wish I still had mine. Hahn S20G powered TSI AWD, only went through 2 trannys !
