Default Raced a Porsche GT2 !!!

Wife and i were leaving Lowes, saw a nice Porsches in front of us. I said to her if it goes on 422 (big highway) im going to follow it. I only had 5 or so street races in 4 years so i was all over this. After getting behind it, it read 'GT2' and i saw twin tip exhaust and bumper slits and a nice wing on it. It was blueish color. hmmmm i said. Traffic let up a little and i pulled beside him and gave a 3rd gear rev and he looked suprised. He had (wife/hooker) with him.
After getting thru some traffic, the left lane opened up for like a mile!! I said to wifey, i bet he'll get in the left lane and gets on it. Yup he did.
So he guns it - i gun it 1 second later and get in the left lane - Im 2 cars behind from the start- 3rd gear is maxing out and he is only 2.1 cars ahead - woo hoo -
Slam 4th gear - thing are starting to move now... - he's still about 2.2 cars ahead - YES !
Max out 4th and hit 5th - he's still about 2.2 cars ahead...and let up.
Man was this a good race.
It seemed he would pull a little ahead, then i'd catch up in the higher rpm's and then have to shift.
So i didnt get dusted and i couldnt catch him.
I thought he was ever so slightly pulling on me, but the wife said it was just a perception thing cause i was a couple car lengths behind from the start.

good race.they have run pretty fast.trap like 120ish.
i raced a gt3 last year with my 80s vette with a stroker(383,230 at .5 cam) from a 60mph roll and got walked pretty bad, like 4cars to 120mph.the guy said to me later that the gt2 runs considerably quicker.
i guess you run high 11s/VERY low 12s?

I dont know what i run 1/4mile...new mods to take to the track.
The more i think about it, i think he was shifting early, not bringing it out to max rpm's/babying it a little, and since i was maxing my car out to the max rpm's, i was catching at the higher rpm, and he would pull at the lower. I dont know , it was cool as hell. And he cant say he dusted me, though he probably should have, maybe.
I looked up his car, its bad as **** and expensive, too.

Nice runs! GT2's are no joke. You may be able to take him in the 1/4... On the top end though, he'd prolly start pullin' on ya. Sounds like it was a lot of fun!

Thumbs up

Nice story

Actually, whether he took it to redline or just shy wouldn't matter at all.

When he'd pull on you while you were in lower rpm's he was already maxed out.

TT Porsche's make most of there max power REALLY early in the rpm's and sustain the same power to ~redline. Once WOT in a race they basically are never out of the power unless they're shifting a couple thousands short of redline.

A similar thing happened when I race and beat a Gemballa TT Porsche on the highway to 150 mph a couple of years ago.

Nice kill. With 424 RWHP, you have 50 or so more than a GT2 (depending on what year the GT2 was). However, a GT2 is lighter and more aerodynamic. A GT2 runs 11.9 on a good day.

I assure you the GT2 owner did not lose any sleep over the results of this race. The GT2 is not designed for straight line performance. Rather, it is an outstanding track car. The GT2 owner would have been much more disappointed if Mark kept up on a road course.

The newer ones have 475 or 480 bhp.
Power under the curve makes a big difference from a roll. That turbo car makes as much, if not a little more, power under the curve than his does.

They lose very little power through the drive-train. So I'd guess the peak power discrepancy is closer to 30 or less. Possibly dead even on peak rwhp if it was a newer GT2.
It's a rwd car and you are correct, very light; less than 3100 lb. I've seen posts on forums of 456 bhp GT2'S running 11.7's.

a stock 911 turbo can run a 11.8 and I would be suprised if a gt3 couldnt get in the 11.9 range on slicks a gt2 if it hooked should easily run 11.6-11.7 being thats its 400 or so lbs lighter then a turbo. And they are easily modded like a turbo chip and exhaust and your over 500 turbos and coolers your damn near 600 or over.
It feels good to beat them but when that modded one smokes you it leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

As a Porsche owner, I would love to agree with your agressive estimates, but Im afraid you are being a bit overly optimistic. I have never heard of a stock GT2 running an 11.6-11.7. Ive heard of a stock 996TTx50 running 11.9, so a GT2 might be able to squeeze out another tenth (11.8), but 11.6 is unlikely.

LOL!!! I own a modded 996TTx50 and I must concede that waxing an unsuspecting V8 or V10 is always fun . . . particularly a modded V8/V10.
