Re: Caddy vs Trans Am
Ive just got use to my car and have waited a little while to race because I didnt want to doing anything like racing and little stupid things to give my car a bad name around town. But now Im ready to start runnin people and when I race the stang I want to lauch good. I am getting a g tech from one of my friends at school so I can feel out how hard to come off the line.....but how much tire spin would I need to look for when I come off the line.....i know none is optimum but its real col at night right now and theres no traction to be had. what would you think my car would run..just a ball park....99 trans am with 3.23's,Lid, K&N, ram air, and hooker cat back?

I don't know where you live in georga, rural or urban but it just takes practice. Generally a couple days before I go to the dragstrip I find a empty back road with a decent road surface and just take a good ten launches just to get the feel back before I head to the track. I just moved to VT from Surfside Beach, SC and there was this empty road out on a golf course there are condo's going up next summer but all last summer/fall it was empty and I would just go out there and play until I was happy with how I could launch it. But remember every time is different, tempratur and road surface are huge factors when it comes to racing on the street. The best bet is to be a little on the easy side, when racing the caddy but just go for broke if you race the mustang, Goodluck!

I live in a little town! I still would like to know how much would spin I should look for? Because I still dont think I am coming off the line near hard enough!

Re: Caddy vs Trans Am
I try not to let them slip for more than say 5-10 feet at the most. I would just ignore how far your tires are spinning and go by a seat of the pants feel in how hard you are accelerating. Because you can spin to long and lose time but if your tires aren't close to breaking loose than your not leaving hard enough just practice and you will know when you have it right. Your tires should be right on the edge of breaking loose, the problem with gauging a launch by how far you burn is that once the tires start to break loose they want to continue to burn, its a balance and it just takes practice and being familiar with your car, you'll feel it in your stomach when you get a good hard launch, and then try to repeat it and get consistant.

I've got a Northstar <img border="0" alt="[pimp]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_pimp.gif" /> Caddy (Deville Concours - 300hp) and it runs damn good. I took it to the track and it was just one more pass away from the 14s I think.
Still no match for my LS1 though of course. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[burn out]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_burnout.gif" />

My parents have a 2001 eldorado etc they thought it was pretty fast too, until they rode in my car.Now when I see them on the street they just wave. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> good luck they are fun to toy with.
