Default Kinda disappointed with my XJR encounter...

I mean, I put him away, but only just.

Big-*** Jag 4-dr with a factory 370 hp. I woulda guessed his additional weight easily offset the extra hp. But even with moderate wheelspin and a decent launch, I just put a nose on the guy, dropping a bit with each upshift and yanking back ahead with each drop of the clutch - and my shifts were reasonably quick this time.

It was only in 4th at upwards of 70mph that I started putting a car or two on him, and he shut down shortly after that.

Of course, I'm running without mods yet, and some tester got that same Jag model to trap in the mid-thirteens. But seeing what I've done to 928S4's and 328 GTS's, I'd hoped to leave this guy a little harder...

An aside - mad props to whoever fixed "comprise" in the topic composition header. The whole comprises parts; that's the only correct usage, even if the rest of the universe seems to be saying "is comprised of..."

Nice race, healthy run. If you're not careful those XJR's will give you a nice view of their rear end. So stay on your feet, keep your eyes open and your head up and handle it.

YOU WERE IN 4TH AT 70MPH?? IT DOES NOT SEEM LIKE YOU WERE PUSHING YOUR CAR TO MUCH.

Thanks SS! I feel better, now. Just never imagined 370 hp from a 4-liter could move two tons of car like that.

Actually, '96, that's a good question. I wound it pretty good thru the first three gears, and I think I put fourth right in the meat of the powerband, which I thought was how I finally put a wee bit of land on the guy. Barked second and chirped third, but it was the top end that did it for me, this much I know.

Am I underestimating the speed? Or maybe forgetting exactly which gear started opening it up?

possibly...

I think we need to give props to the dude in the Jag.....not to often do you find a Jag owner that is willing to air it out a bit.

Yeah, based on another encounter this last weekend, one in which I paid a bit more attention to the speed, I realized I must have been wrong.

I'm reasonably sure now that it was third that did the damage... and that I underestimated the speed pretty severely...

Running up to 6g's before I shift, I think I'm at 70 by the end of second or beginning of third??? (hehe, it kinda goes by real fast. )

My best friend's 2001 XJR ran 13.94 stock. We have added quite a few mods, and should be in the 12's this spring. They are great cars, and respond well to mods.
