Mercedes E55 AMG
Don't know too much about this car, but I know one thing...it's NOT slow!
I'm cruising along doing about 55 in a 45 and up comes this silver E55 AMG on my ***. So, I lay into it and put a good distance between us. He hangs back kinda far, so I don't think he wants to run. I come up on a light with him still behind me and he puts on his turn signal to turn right, so of course, I do the same.
I turn right and get into the left hand lane and hang there going about 20mph to see if he wants to line 'em up from a roll. He pulls up next to me in the right hand lane and slowly starts to pass me, doesn't look over or anything. Great looking car. Appeared to be brand new. So, I'm thinking he doesn't want to go, but all of a sudden when he's about a half car ahead of me, he punches it. So, when I floor it I'm at his rear bumper about one car back. At first I can't make up any ground at all, he's not pulling me, but I'm not pulling him either. After about two seconds of this, I start pulling on him slightly and then ever harder the faster we went. When I hit about 80mph, I'm pulling on him pretty hard and by the time I shut down around 95mph due to upcoming traffic, I had at least a car and a half on him (maybe a little more) and was pulling very hard.
So, I beat him by a solid two and a half cars from 20-95mph. Not sure if this is any good or not, but it sure was fun!

Re: Mercedes E55 AMG
Found this at motortrend.com...
2003 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG
Pushing the performance boundaries, Mercedes-Benz unleashed the supercharged E55 AMG in Chicago. One of the highest performance sedans the world has ever seen, the E55 boasts 469 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. Think about it: more power than a Chevrolet Corvette Z06 or last year's Dodge Viper. Oh, baby. The handbuilt engine features a Lysholm-type, belt-driving supercharger peaking at 11.6 psi and maximized by an intercooler. The resulting power can propel the E55 0-60 mph in a claimed 4.5 seconds and reach a 155-mph top speed. The torque is managed by a five-speed automatic transmission programmed with sport-minded SpeedShift for quick gear changes, handled automatically or controlled manually via steering-wheel mounted buttons. Complete AMG treatment upgrades the brakes, suspension, wheels, exterior, and interior.
Pretty sure it was an '03 because it had the new rims.

Re: Mercedes E55 AMG
Nice kill. I had a similar run with an AMG this last weekend. I was with a few cars comming back from the track when this silver AMG with track numbers pulls up. He gets on it easy as do i and we run up to 100 or so. I noticed that i was running about 75% and he was not losing ground. We continue to play and anytime he takes off before me i am able to sloly make up ground. We finally get an even race 80-140. from 80- 100 i got about a car on him and after that he just stayed at 1 car back. I HATE 5th gear, i could pull him anymore after 5th. So you are correct. They are not slow.

I know the mags do not know how to drag race, but this is the same mag dragracing the two cars. I think it will take a Z06 to out run one of those and even that it will barely do so. So if u cannot outran a Z06, then I might have to call the u know what on you

Re: Mercedes E55 AMG
Mercedes had no E55 AMG listed for '03 on their website. I found older ones pushing 349 hp. That may have been what I encountered. In that case I think I would not require a . If it was an '03 I most likely would have had my a$$ handed to me. I did not speak with the driver to ask what year it was.

Yep these cars are damn fast. They are also a little on the heavy side(well over 4000lbs). They maybe even AWD but I do not know that one for sure. Another wicked AMG is the SL55AMG. 493hp and buttloads of torque.

Re: Mercedes E55 Amg
How can you smoke a car that does 0-60 4.2 and quarter mile low 12s (according to motortrend) . Your camaro will most probably do 5.2 0-60 and if indeed that car you encountered was the new E55 he would have spanked you badly unless you are heavily modded. Either it was the old E55 or the guy wasn't pushing it.
#15
The guy with the Camaro is likely telling the truth. The E-55 AMG is heavier and the Camero is likely putting out 375 or so hp with his mods which will easilly put it into the lower 12's. I raced an older E-55 AMG when I was stock and kept up with him. Niether of us could really pull on eachother. I may have after 100 once but I think he let off.

Was doing a 0-60 search for 04 E55 and this page came up so I didn't pay attention how old it was. But anyway I got smoked today by a brand new E55 which still had temp tags on and I was shocked how fast that thing went. I was behind at least 5 or 6 cars. I drive an 01 Audi S4. Looks like that car has tremendous power and I just saw a video of an 03 modded cobra being killed. A Camaro really needs to be modded to kill that car and if the person that posted this was then I do believe it.

i've personally witnessed a 60 year old guy in an SL55 (just bout the same car) run 12.2s... no those cars are NOT slow. it's weird that the guy who originally posted this started gaining on it above 80mph. in my experience, benzs are geared much more for 60-120 than from 0-60. they are monsters once they get up to highway speed. well, monsters for luxury sedans anyway.

My buddy has an '01 E55, I ran him with my stock M6 '02 SS and beat him by a fender from 40-125. They are NOT awd, they are 349hp with around 400tq and weigh close to 4k lbs. I believe.
