They all hide behind that HP/liter crap. That means absolutely nothing.

Do you think it's all about marketing?

My 21 year old son is always talking about NSXs,subarus and so on.He never talks about Camaros,T/As or Vettes.

It bothers me that he doesn't recognize the American muscle cars.He told me an NSX would obliterate my T/A.I told him an f-body with bolt-ons is faster than an NSX.He thinks i'm talking sh*t.

Fast Eddie's 02 T/A vert. - You bring up a good point. I'm sure marketing plays a role in it. Let's not forget the media. We can always point fingers at them...Fast and the Furious. A kid yesterday told me there's no way I could pull on an older stock Talon 'cuz they're all wheel drive. Ummm, sure buddy...ok.

im 18 and i too have been very disapointed in my generation. It does nothing more than make me cring inside when someone comes up to me and says and i Quote,"Man, that talin like the fastest $h!t in town its so fast" or to say that a eclipse with a after market turbo runs 13-12 sec 1/4 mile times. It like they really and truely can belive that. im not sure why we have been brought to crappy car Central and i hate it with nothing more than an utter pasion. i hope that someday the rice will no longer have an influence on our country and the SMALL BLOCK, or BIG BLOCK will one day be known as the greatest engine once again.

You just have to educate the "ricers" one at a time in the most polite and educated means possible. Take them for a ride, or blow their doors off, but always be approachable and educate without being condescending. These kids are the future of our cars and we need to get more on board.

I find it amusing when my GF who's 20 puts plenty a whoopins on the local ricers her age. All she drives is our "inferior" LT1 Formula. All it has is Macs w/ Flowmaster.

Those car can run, don't ever make that mistake. They can pull 1.6 60s at any intersection with no smokey burnouts.

It's the bozos in the 99Malibus or Cougars with the aluminum double-decker, stickers and hood scoop that make me .

DO have tolerance for all, even "ricers". A fast car speaks for itself. The truth will rise to the top, eventually. I liked Roadrunner 45's quote from a ricer, "HOLY SH$T!, HOLY SH$T!!!"

I thought the kid was pretty funny myself. If my car had been a REALLY fast car (like the 9 or 10 sec. cars some members have) I'm sure I would have had to take out the passenger seat for a professional cleaning.

Update on the kid- I was talking with the kid's dad today and I mentioned that I took his son for a ride. He told me he knew- his kid got home and told old dad that he was going to save up for a car like mine (he's only 16 now and drives a purple nissan shitbox). I guess they do learn. It's all about the children- We must save the children!!!

As for Talons and Eclipses running fast at the track- I wouldn't know- my wife wouldn't ever let me take her car to the track.

You guy's sound like a bunch of grumpy old men. Roadrunner 45, your tampon string is hanging out. I'm not into imports, but there are a "few" that will pull a stock LS1.

unit213,

I know what you mean...I once had a college friend tell me his stock MR2, that he never has ran at the track, runs 14.7(mag he got it from) and that no way a 03 Cobra ran 12s. Of course after a little spin, he didn't want to race me for some reason.

Here's something you all might like. I was at No Problem Raceway a couple weeks ago and there was a heavily stickered up Lancer running 17s, a bunch of Tiburons running 16s and the best of all............. A Stock Escape with a K&N running 15.8 shut them all down. That Escape was the 6cylinder with auto.

To see a minu SUV with a baby seat in it smacking supposed sport compact cars around was something I really enjoyed.

I have no idea what class I personally fall into (23 in a couple of weeks)

But as far as what is wrong with todays generation...I think that there is really nothing wrong with them....What did your parents say about you and your generation...How they where a better generation they had more respect..did your generation ruin the whole world....no...could they have yes...but is it any different than what history has presented itself with over and over again....no...We change...We adapt....

You cant possibly tell me that you didn't know some dumbass in high school that used to rattle on about this and that for his muscle car...and all you could think about was WTF...does this guy have any idea what he is talking about?

Education is a problem...there is such a wealth of knowledge at everyones fingertips all it takes is some motivation... Then there is the follower mentallity most of them never tread there own path...Again still yet we live in a society that requires instant gratification...patience is now more of a virtue than it ever has been...We obviously have things happening (in general) alot faster than in previous generations...but anybody that has even tinkered under a hood know that even most boltons...aren't just bolt ons

It is clearly obvious that a large segment of the "sport car market" is being taken over by high performance 4 and 6 cylinders...which really isn't that big of a deal....problem is most of these kids are completely clueless to the true capabilities of there vehicles (they are getting respectable # now)...they often live in a fantasy world called ricer land....where turbos spool 200 psi and your civic leaves the line like a roller coaster ride....

I say keep bringing them on I will keep smacking the slow dumb ones around until they wake up...more fun for me anyways!

...that was my point entirely..seat of your pants acceleration! The kind that makes ya need to change your underwear! (HOLY SH$T!) And it doesn't matter what car it comes from...even that of the dreaded "ricer". And yes, DO have tolerance, even for old men, like me. And I ain't grumpy. I'm grampie!!!!

here is a 24 year old's 2 sense:

1. keep in mind i've owned alot of different styles of vehicles, currently a 89 integra and a 98 z28 1le
2. at 20, when i wanted to order a z28, insurance was $330/ month on a perfect record. still $1800/ year. $8/hr doesn't equal new car
3. for example, there are alot who say the interior of a say, civic, or something is better than a camaro. well i agree, BUT the performance of the f-body totally out weighs this fact. now keep when you have the same performance like say in a z24, why drive a car with the same level of perforance if it is built crappier?ie z24
4 let's play devil's advocate here, i think alot of the older generation has forgot loud glass packs, n50's sticking 3" past the fenders, air shocks, rear leaf spring shackles, and crushed velvet interiors to say the least. EVERY generation has them.
I THINK alot of those who "rice out" aren't car guys at all. they are there because its a another band wagon to jump on. they just do it because they think it will get them laid easier, to put others down- ie i can beat you or spend more than you so in turn i am better than you, and/or are just all around loud mouthes who want attention.
it is not so much the origin or type of car, but the DOUCHE BAG or poser behind the wheel.
I RESPECT THOSE WHO RESPECT THEMSELVES.

THe f-bods interior is ten times better.

i haven't been in a latemodel mustang ever so i'll take you word, but if you compare the interior of the friends civic's 99-00 (the cars are totally stock-they are just transportation, make that clear)to mine, i think theirs are tighter, better built and designed. sorry but GM usually = cheap plastic interiors. BUT i don't own my car just the interior, i own it because its got ballz (torque)from the factory you'd pay out the wazouu for from most other manufacters,ie honda
