Radical, yes, but the concept found favor with top management, and the first-ever four-door M3 joined the lineup for the '97 model year. In the U.S., at least, the experiment was a success. Even though the four-door E36 went out of production in May 1998 to make room for the new E46 3-series sedans, 7760 were sold in 1997 and '98, accounting for more than 46 percent of M3 sales in the U.S. for those two years.
Wow, that makes me what...a retard. Anyways, they only made them for 97-98, and his friend says his is a 99, so.....you can still take what I said and apply it to this particular race. Honestly, I thought they were only availale in 2 door.

um yeah it was a 94 (that year had an lt1) but still with everything he has done to it even a newer m3 would have a tough time winning...out of the hole he will annihilate him and his bimmer wont be able to read his license plate in about 10 seconds....whoop his rich ***!

Ok. I found out some more about the car. Its actually a 97 and it is chipped, has a cold air kit, and has some sort of shift kit. So what do you guys think now because he is so confident he can win. What do you guys estimate his H.P.? Maybe like 260 at the engine?

My guess is around 200-225hp to the tire. He doesn't have all the mods, but they are still decently quick cars. They made the 4 door M3 starting in mid 1995. It's an inline 6 BTW, BMW doesn't make a V6. I just noticed martingale already correctly you on that though.

half-n-half: how would a newer m3 hold up? like a 01+ (or whatever the new body style is?) against something like my manual LS1, pretty much stock?

Depending upon the driver, it can go either way. If I were to put money on it, I'd go with the LS1 stock for stock. It can be close though, E46 M3s are no joke. They move, they just don't produce the amount of torque our cars do.
