haha I cant believe they restricted it so no one can see it!
The long and short is apparently there is a problem with the Evo MAF that when you rev at it, right next to it or whatever, if your exhaust is resonant enoughit can shut the car off. Pretty crazy stuff! People were getting all kinds of out of control!
EDIT: the first guy that posted it said he wanted to know if his car was shutting itself off because it was scared of muscle cars.

I'll recap on it.
Evo's stock intake and MAF sensor has problems with certain frequencies ( in this case, low powerful exhaust). It gets even worse, when an aftermarket intake is put on. It is so bad, that when they slam their hood with the car running. . .it will miss and sputter for a second. You can even tap on the intake, and get the same results. It is highly sensitive. A few said that there car has actually shut off, when they picked up certain exhaust tones from V-8s.
A "quick fix" for this is switching from MAF. . .to speed density.
That thread will go down in history. Too bad I didn't screenshot it. . .

There is a Evo3 in my condo I pass everymorning. It looks like it has had some mods done to it. If I see him getting in or parking I will ask him if he has heard of the problem? If he hasnt I'll see if he wants to do the test

I'm a newbie but I had to help you out with this, I happened to catch the first page of that crazy funny thread.
TITLE - car stalls around loud cars
Everytime im around muscle cars or stuff like that my car stalls. Its like my cars scared. what can I do to fix it besides taking it to the worthless mishi. people. whats causing it.
Open the hood while the car is running and tap on the top of the airbox; it will do the same or very similar.
I beleive that it has to do something with the MAS being very sensitive etc to certain frequencies.
i think it has to do with the knock sensor
you can't do anything. It's the knock sensor picking up the impact of the open exhaust, and thinking that the car is pinging. In turn it pulls timing to the point that the car stalls. FWIW Harley's with shotgun pipes can do it too. The only way to get around it would be to reduce the sensitivity of the knock senor or bypass it alltogether, and I wouldn't recommend that.
Well Im sure then the mystery is solved.
haha. i'm sorry, but this cracks me up. i can imagine some old skool mustang or camero wanting to race... "sorry, i can't. my car is too scared of your car."
Your intake is causing the problem.

hahahaha, the way you said it was funny! man, that sucks!!
yeah my car has done it to from my buddies turbo civic. He has open DP and he pulled up next to me and reved and my car almost stalled I was like WTF. At leastI know its normal.
It's definitely the knock sensor. It happened to me next to a harley once. It happens if you slam the hood while idling too.
yea i was at the beach for a classic car cruise there was TONS of cars. It doesnt stall much but it just acts scared lol. Allright thats cool just tryin to fix it but o well
This is too funny. Please don't let this thread get out to the muscle car guys. We will never hear the end of it!
THIS IS JUST THE FIRST PAGE...THAT'S ALL I COULD GET.
