'99 C5 Vette auto??
I currently have a '02 GT Mustang conv. This morning I test drove a '99 C5 Vette auto and I was impressed. I've heard people say who used to have a auto C5 that their '05 GTO A4 feels much faster. My question is how do you think the C5 auto would fare against a '05 GTO A4?? I plan on getting a GTO and I wonder if they'll be a seat of the pants difference??

Well if its a 99 C5 (non Z06) its an LS1 engine versus an LS2 in the 05 GTO and that should explain the difference. However, the C5 weighs less than the 05 GTO so even with the bigger ls2 engine in the 05 GTO the C5's weight advantage should almost negate the differnce in HP numbers. Therefore there shouldnt be a whole lot of difference in the two performance wise, but thats just my opinion. Ive driven a 2000 C5 and an 04 GTO with the LS1 and the C5 was def faster, so the LS2 in the 05 GTO should equal the vettes performance. Just take the 05 GTO for a test drive and then take the C5 out again on the same day and compare, that would be your best bet. Hope that helps and good luck with whatever ride you choose!

Still you think a '05 GTO A4 will feel any faster from the driver's seat??

Well they have similar power to weight ratios, so would feel about the same in the seat. That's also shown by about the same quarter mile time. I think the GTO would be a lot more fun to own, but I wouldn't get an auto

Yea its gonna feel pretty much the same, like zfan and I both said its gonna be a wash since the weight advantage of the vette is gonna cancel out the ls2 in the GTO. Id think the seat of the pants feel would be the same but the vette would feel better while driving because of it handling advantage. Haha thats pretty sweet they let you take the vette for a test drive, must have had fun putting it through the paces!

It would be so damn close performance to performance. But the style points go to the 'vette. How many people do you know go "wow you drive a gto" vs. "wow, a vette" Vette's just have better status. I have a c5m6 that I just switched to from an '02 gt, and it's a tremendous upgrade. It also will grab the road a bit harder on the turns, It will also be a lot cheaper, and it is a "vette". If you keep it for 20 years, it's more likely to appreciate in value. And it it's a vette!

All Vette's around here are no less than $22k, anything above 75k miles is going for about 20-22k. Thats the reason I got a Trans Am, I like them equally but I got a 99 with 32k for 14,000.

They were asking 24K for it but she was willing to "work" with me. Man now I'm wishing I wasn't so new on my loan with my mustang!!
stick or auto?

So do you think the sale value is going to go anylower????
