got beat by late 80s early 90s transam pace car
I am cruising around my home town and we go bye a gas station and what apeared to be a gta firebird was setting there.Any way didnt think nothing about it.Well I cruise on down the road and through our walmart.Well when i go to pull out the transam goes cruising bye.So I pull out and get up beside him were going about 65 and I floor it and the transam floor its and It sounded just like a Buick GN.Well i pull away from him let off about 105.I pull in a store and the guy pulls up beside me.Says your car runs pretty good you want to race.I am like sure so I follow him and we find agood strech of road.and turn around get beside each other and stop.Count of 3 we take off and I spin a little bit but not much his car spins a bunch but hes still beside me.He ended up beating me bye afender in the eighth. My car is A stock 98 Z-28 with a catback exaust system and k&n air filter. His car had 231 v-6 turbo with alist of mods amile long including methonal water injection. Thanks for reading my story.

I've seen several of those run 13.2s stock.
Consider yourself lucky it wasn't way more of an ***-raping. If you had kept going it would have been.
The '89 TTA is one of my all-time favorite cars! And also the only Trans Am ever to have a V6. It has basically the same engine as a Buick GNX, however, it has way more goodies and it's a second faster in stock form!
It was also the first car to ever pace the Indy-cars in STOCK, unmodded form.

After we raced we went back and pulled up beside each other and talked for awhile. He said his car had been 97 mph in the eighth.I told him I've got a 71 nova street car with a 447 bbc that runs 6.20 eighth at 117 mph.

Yeah you're lucky that it wasn't more worst than it was. The TTA's, GNX, and GN's are some of the best muscle Detroit had to offer back in the late '80's. All three especially teh Turbo-Trans Am (TTA) could hang with us today nearly 20 years later.
But as far as top speed I don't know, I thought the LS1's had the edge there, but maybe I'm wrong.

The heads on the TTA were a little different than a GNX's.... but it was a beast nonetheless...... I still want one...as well as a 91/92 Firehawk.... those are the ultimate turd gens IMO.

Do they still consider the TTA to be the fastest production TA?

210hp and 345tq from the factory. Had to run on crappy low octance gas of the day, had about 7to1 compression.

early 90's GM brought upon us a typhoon and cyclone (s-10 pickup and blazer suv on steroids)...with a 4.3l turbocharged engine mated with AWD, completely tuned sport suspension, it soon became evident that with a little tweakin, they could be monsters. not so much in stock form, but who keeps **** stock anymore in thie hobbie. not too many of them were made therefore makin them very hard to get now and if you can find one in decent shape, it will run you in excess of 12k bucks.

GNs will run as quick as high 13s stock.
I think the TTA was considered the quickest factory Bird until the LS1 came along. There's been a bit of controvesy in the past among 89 TTA and LS1 guys as to who is fastest stock.

I saw a GNX driven on the streets a 2 years ago. The guy had 30k miles on it and was trying to sell it for 40k so he could buy a Z06. It was a true GNX.. 3 link suspension and all.
