Sledgehammer had a pretty crappy 1/4 mile time if I remember, since the car was totally geared for top speed.

Callaway only built 2 of them I believe, and they were 88 models. They have a top speed "body kit" that looks unlike any other vette you'll see.

google for pics if you like.

Only 2? I figured to be considered 'production' a minimum number of the car would have to be built.

So can't really say it was the fastest production car ever made if that's true I'd assume.

If that's the case, I wonder who holds the title?

that guy is on Corvettekillstories.com, and in that issue of GMHTP he was shiftin at 4k b/c the motor was breaking up above that. 13's while shifting @ 4k is respectable to me...

I have had the LS1 to 150. It had more left but I was running out of overpass so I let off. In the LT1 I did 135 or 140 before but that was pretty much maxed out.

Default my .02

I've had mine north of 160 a few times. That was on 16" eagle gsa's....yeah. Young dumb..full of well you know. But I was out to prove that my friend's evos and sti couldn't hang in the mojave. Looking back on it, it was a stupid thing to do. Fun, but stupid. If your car isn't ready for it, don't do it. You could splatter yourself and your fbody all over the place.

I'm a *****...I plowed to 100 mph and let off....that was PLENTY for me. Anything above 80 MPH and you're really playing with fire, even if you think you're in total control. It's just not worth it.

untill the bugatti officially becomes production, its the mclaren F1. many other cars have beaten its top speed, but there are less than 100 of any of them ever, so they are not near production. Ok, by many i mean 3-4, and cars like the callaway that are "production" and there are only 2 of them(but hey, somebody produced em)
Bugatti 16-4: 252.3
McLaren F1: 240.1
Koenigsegg CCR: 241.1
of course different sources will always say different, but im perty sure thats accurate for the world record. i dont think that the CCR was ever really production.

80 mph ? If you're not completely confident, and in total control of you car at 80 mph, do you really think that you're any better off at 60-70 mph ? Or even 50 mph ? Maybe a driving school would allow you to feel more confident ?

I have a vid of a TT Callaway, But i have no idea how to post it on this board. If any one wants it, just leave me some instructions on what to do. It was racing a supra, viper and S/C WS6. It looks like he hits 170ish and is only around 3900 rpm
Just a note-

Confident or not there are just to many unforseen things that could go wrong at such high speeds. Your chances of surviving an impact of any calibur at 50 mph is much greater than that at 80mph.

I'll make this short and sweet . . . since you've had no real experience with the topic yourself, plus you appear to make judgement calls on highway/high-speed safety without doing a little research.

I've lived in Eastern Europe. On the German highway system the normal, or low, rate of speed is ~120 mph.

I've traveled at, relatively speaking, tremendous velocities DOZENS OF TIMES; any veterans on here or LS1.com would know me

The German highways are FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR safer to travel on than ANY highway in the continental U.S.

Now . . . you'll say "Germany is a much smaller country with far fewer population driving . . . " mile per mile of traveled highway per vehicle, their highways are safer with less fatalities AND accidents than ours.

They know how to drive. Just ask me how LONG their driving test is for a license . . . oh . . . and how many THOUSAND dollars it costs to get one. When it takes a couple weeks to get a license and well more than a grand in cash to do it, then you make sure you PASS

People that have had extensive training at driving and racing schools can control their cars better than the numnuts we see everyday on the road.

If you know how to drive properly . . . abide by right of way, recognized fast-lane, no tail-gating, two-hands, no CELL PHONE WITHOUT EAR-PIECE, no t.v. wathcing , etc. . . then, barring mechanical neglect, high-speed driving can be safe.

80 mph is NOT fast. It's actually pretty slow. In other countrys where driver training and practice are at much higher levels than here, 100 mph is the speed at which grandmothers in minivans safely take their grandchildren to bible study.

Yes of course it is, however the chances of the "average" american driver in their average under maintained car wrecking, compared to a highly skilled driver in a well maintained car is like 100 to 1 or more. Is it speed that is the barometer of danger here, or skill ? Do you really understand just how poorly trained the average american driver really is ?
