Default Should I run an mr2 for money.

How fast are mr2's? The reason why I am asking is becuase, I have a friend who wants to set me up with one. His specs are kind of kept under secret, but from what I have heard, it is pretty fast. All I know is hes using a gt40r turbo. I'm not familiar with turbo sizing so I'm assuming it is pretty big on a 4 banger. How do you think I would fair? And should I run for money?

My specs are:

2002 ls1
heads,cam,lid,exhaust,and a 150 shot(just in case)

I havent had a chance to run it yet at the track. Just bought it about a month ago, so I'm still trying to get the hang of it. But I assume low 12's high 11's

I would be very leary.. MR2 are very light and once you start adding boost to em they can get crazy fast very quick... if its not a lot of money your racing for and you have drag radials at least (i would like slicks more) i would go ahead and try it.... but dont save the spray, spary as fast as you can hold the traction.. and i would only do it from a stop no roll....

MR2's are not that light, They tip in around 2700#ish. HOWEVER, I know a guy putting down 265rwhp on the STOCK turbo and running 12.8 with that. I know another guy with 300rwhp/301rwtq and he should be mid 12's or better. THey are MEAN little cars. Not at all something to take lightly when you start mentioning aftermarket turbo's, etc. Do it for fun or an amount of money you wont be mad if you lose.

Just talked to my friend who said he's on this board. He doesn't remember his name on here, but he used to post quite frequently.

I've seen a few highly modded MR2s and for they just don't perform as you would think on a drag strip. You could be in the 11's with just a 150 shot, so with all you've got it should be no question unless you need to work on your driving still. I highly doubt this is a mid 11 second or better MR2, he should have around 350+rwp to be in the 11's at all. I would only really worry if it is trailered to the race or has some N20.

with heads, cam, lid, exhaust, and a 150 shot you should have no problem trapping 130+ mph.

you'll beat him if you spray.

jekylandhyde, a popular mr2 race car on mr2oc.com has 440rwhp and runs 11.1s @ 123.75

Hes 25psi on the boards here. As long as I have browsed here on the site, I've never seen him before. But I did do some searches and really couldn't find out anything about his car. Now hes wants to run for $200, but the thing is, he wants to do it from a roll. Do you think it would be wise to run him that way, or should I stay from a dig?

The GT40R is a 600-700whp turbo so it really depends what he has. If he is fully built with all supprting mods, standalone and race gas.... watch out! Otherwise you should be fine especially on the spray. Try to find out his mods!

^^^^^I don't think MR2's are capable of that kind of power, maybe you are talking about on a DSM? You can't give a turbo a Hp number, because a gt40r on a geo will give you a different power output then if it was on a Corvette. A Gt40r is popular for RX-7's and Supra's, even high hp Evo's.

Never heard of a turbo that big on a MR2. Sounds a little wierd. Either way, that **** is pretty huge for that little car. Find out what kind of boost and if he runs race gas. Also, run from a dig if possible. Torque is your friend and lag is his enemy.

First of all I don't even know who you are. I had to come out of retirement on here since I haven't posted in so long. Who told you that we where suppose to race today? My phone has been ringing all morning to see if I am going to run or not. I will run you but not for 200 dollars. I'll do $500 though.
I have no problem telling you what I have done to my car. Most people that know me on here can verify my mr2. Its not the run of the norm mr2. Granted you don't see to many fast ones out there, but that doesnt mean were not.

And to respond to your rediculous comments LSIAN7, what do you mean mr2's can't make that much power. Mr2's can produce just as much on stock internals than any evo or maybe even more. I've never heard of any Evo making in access of 1000hp. Ams is close, but have not done it yet. If you are unfamiliar with a car, please keep your lack of knowledge to a minimum
