Default Killed by a '97 Viper

Raced a '97 Viper twice tonight....both from a dig. He had K&N's and a catback. First race he jumped out before I realized we were starting and we both spun bad. I spun all the way into 2nd. That race he pulled all the way to 3-4 car lead through a 1/4 mile. This was not at the drag strip, but a 1/4 mile just happens to be conveniently marked . Second race, we both babied off the start and I spun immediately, but was able to hook fairly quickly and hung with him through my first gear. I even started to pull him...but my euphoric feeling was dashed at about the same time it began. He walked away and finished a solid 4-5 cars ahead that time. Those watching swore I hung with him, but I have to be honest and say not even close. However, awesome car and very quick. Where's that 3500 stall and some good tires?

There was also a '98 SS A4 that raced him. Not real sure on his mods but I believe he had a small converter and a nice sounding exhaust. He also ran DR's and he pulled the Viper HARD out of the hole. I'd say 3-4 cars right off the bat. I missed the first race where he supposedly won. The two that I saw were close but the Viper got him by a car.

All in all, very fast car. I was surprised and intrigued by these races. I didn't do too badly considering. A few more mods and the tables would turn nicely.

Good runs, vipers are sick cars, I just wish the rest of the car was as well built as the driveline. It would truly be world class then.

Awesome race! Definitally no shame in losing to a Viper.

Speak for yourself.

Good attempts though. You should add a lil spray man. It would take care of your snake problem.

vipers are quick, i still remember when c&d (i think) mag raced a gts versus a awd porsche in the late 90s. 0-60 the poesche had him by over a car, but by the end of the 1/4 the viper chased that thing down and whooped it by a solid.2-.3 seconds. never ending torque is what i hear. i want to get my hands on one.

They trap 118-120 stock. Thats not too bad. We had one at my shop, a 99 GTS, we took it out and ran my 99 SS H/C and even went off his jump and beat it twice but must say it did even up to a dead lock, he just happened to be 3-4 cars back. A good H/C LS1 will trap 119-122, so be careful.

His best times to date are 11.9's at 116-118. So he has me by one second and 8-10 MPH. And this is in ideal conditions with traction. Like I said though, considering the conditions and circumstances I am happy. I just wish I could have hooked out of the hole. That would have knocked it down considerably. Oh well. It was fun and that car sounded badass. I don't know what exhaust he had, but it was loud and screamed at WOT.

I raced one of the new model ones 500hp, from a dig i got on him pretty good and in a quarter i might have had him but he got me to do a roll from 50 and the top end on those cars is amazing we stayed pretty even to about 90 or so but after that it was like he hit a small shot cause he started pullin and had about 3 cars on me to 150

99 ands previous come with forged pistons from dodge, screamin for a little spray and tune. THat alone in a viper with some bolt ons is something even the almighty 4.6 all forged 03/04 cobra owners gotta worry about.

ALMIGHTY 4.6?????? Your scaring me man..Hope you were just kidding..

Anyways...When I was bone stock my C5 was running 13.5 at 103 mph ( 2.73 gears at a track in Hawaii)

There were to bone stock Vipers at the same track on the same nights that I had the pleasure of racing...A 98 and a 97.

They both ended up pulling 12.7's at 112 mph.

A full 8 tenths and 9 mph faster than my Vette!!!!! Gotta give respect were respect is do..

The 2002 Z06's at the same track on the same night that also run with me on ocassion were running 13.0 at 110 mph...

Still a solid 3 tenths and 2 mph slower than the stock Vipers...Just gotta give it to them. they are bad A** cars..

But I will say this. There has been one 2002 Z06 at my track that ran a bone stock 12.8 at 111 mph...So it can be a close race...

But again were comparing the fastest of the fastest 2002 z06 at my track to two random Vipers that BOTH pulled 12.7's at 112 mph. So it's not really that close..

I talked to one of the Viper guys and he said that with his slicks he ran a 12.2 on the other wise stock viper. I know at your tracks in the main land thats nonthing special..But here thats insane!!!

From that point on we always said high to each other and he would somtimes bring his red 1997 supercharged viper that ran high 9's on race gas....Ive seen many camaros and vettes run 11's at my track and a few in the 10's...But never one running 9's...

I offerred him 35 grand for the supercharged viper but he wouldnt take anything under 40 grand....( it was a salvage title)
