beat by 4 bang stang....
couple of weekends ago i was at the local street race hangout and had run a few impytuners and wasn't doin' well when this old ratty as* piece of crap stang pulls into the lot. as it goes by i see a tinfoil rear side window, more rust than i've ever seen on a car in one piece and a dinky tail pipe dragging the road at every bump. so i turn to a friend of mine and joke about that thing being the only race i could win that night.... so my friend goes up to this guy and sets up a light to light run against me..... i really didn't feel like wasting my time but my buddy went out of his way to set this up..... so light goes green i mash the pedal and leave this guy about 4-5 lengths behind me.... the next thing i know this sound like a friggin fighter jet flies past me eminating from this stang... i look down at my speedo and i'm pushing 80 and this thing passes me like i'm sitting still.....
so here is the sleeper of the century.... 83? mustang gt turbo... i don't know much about turbos but this thing looked like it came off a mack truck.... the owner procedes to tell me he also sprays it to get 9.50's in the quarter....nice now i really feel stupid and go home for the night...

Was it a turbo 5.0 or the SVO turbo 4 banger? Nice death I know a guy that has a monster SVO, I couldnt believe what that little light 4 banger could do. He whipped my buddys full bolt-on ported Cobra and the funny thing is he blew something at the 1000ft mark and still won.....

Sounds like a SVO. Those are nasty lil 4 cyls. I believe best year was 85 it came with 205hp stock. But I've seen then run 10's on boost alone when the right mods are done. Argumentably(sp?) the best sleeper ever. Good death. -Mark

apearantly this was prior to the svo???.... it didn't have the svo front end but it was a 4 banger.... and damn fast! but on the back under primer it had "GT TURBO" on it so i really don't know what the thing was... i guessed at the year so i'm still unsure what it really was....

OK DID SOME RESEARCH AND THIS IS WHAT I FOUND!!!!

We have a 1982 Ford Mustang GT Turbo 4, which was produced on 07/02/1982 at the Dearborn plant for sale in Canada.
Problem is there were none of these produced or documented in the States so there are a lot of non believers out there. The American records show that Ford dropped the TURBO 4 in 1981/1982 but we had previously owned a 1981 TURBO 4. To further complicate the matter the driver's door was replaced last year and we no longer have the original door tag.
We have the original buck tag, emmission sticker, rear end tags, Canadian sales brocher confirming the options etc. but still have a problem convincing people it was a factory production car. I also have 2 '999' sheets from Ford that are slightly different but both list the power as a TURBO 4.
Can anyone shed any more light on this model? Also is it possible to get a correct door tag for the car. I'm at a lose here. I shouldn't need it with all the other documentation and the fact the orginal door has been change but people seem to be hung up on it.

Is it possible that what you have is a 1983 Mustang GT with the 4 cylinder option? What front end does your car have? - The 1982 has a front end that belongs only to it and the early 80's Cobra. In any event, I own a 1982 GT that was purchased in Dallas Texas with 4 miles on the odometer on August 4, 1982. I remember that sitting on the lot, next to my future 82 GT was a brand new Red 83 GT. That means if I saw an 83 sitting on the lot in early August of 1982, then that 83 must have been produced around June or July - around the same time that your's was produced.

'83 Turbos would have been fuel injected. The '81s were carburated but we can find no production figures for any '82 Turbos, even where the motor was offered as an option.
arrive in style JOC- HMN parts loc8r svc.

Here is what I learned: Canadian GT's in 1982 had one more engine choice than U.S. versions. The 2.3 turbo four was an option, according to the Mustang GT registry. I found the info. on their website under Info By Year and clicked on 1982-1993 Canadian-Export Mustang GT's.

hmmm i wonder where I can get one?

My cousin raced dirt track. he used the carb'ed 4-banger 'stang motors and put over 200 to the tires on a desk-top dyno. He could mercilessly spin 8" tires on the hard packed dirt track (gets about like black-top). he wound the motors out to 8300 for 30 minutes at a time and they were a major feat of engineering with a TON of improvision and one-off stuff. he blew 2 in 10 years of every-week-end dirttracking with his son's driving (2 cars ran each weekend) so thats pretty good imho. He re-built them every 2 years.

Oh ok, just wondering if that was the actual owner of the car your aced as it could have been a swap, but who knows, just next time you see him find out for us as im curious as to what he might have under the hood. You will def surprise him with the spray though! How much you going to spray BTW?
