Weights:
F-Body:

"*EDIT: Yeah, I would say the engines are about 80 lbs difference. I looked up on AutoTrader and the curb weight of a stock '97 LT1 Z28 is 3442 lbs and the curb weight of a stock '02 LS1 Z28 is 3439 lbs. I'm not sure how accurate AutoTrader is with curb weights, but that's what they said."

https://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-modifications/363203-ls1-vs-lt1.html

"Curb weights, estimated (lbs./kg)

— Base 3306/1500
3500/1588
— Z28 3439/1560
3574/1622 "

http://www.lastofthebreed.com/Histor...2001Camaro.htm

Thats official weights not counting driver or gas. And its not for T-Tops or Convertable AFAIK. Plenty of 3700# plus Cars out there.

Evo:
http://www.roadraceengineering.com/e...evoweights.htm
3180-3280. The MR is at 3350+. The 3180 is for the no option RS.
RRE is one of the best 4G63 shops anywhere IMHO.

Lancer
http://www.edmunds.com/used/2005/mit...128/specs.html
2656 curb weight. I have not seen any actual weights because nobody gives a crap about the base Lancer.

As for the weight of the AWD, like I said, you have the extra fluids, the extra half shafts, the extra 2 diffs as opposed to one for RWD or FWD. You have hubs for all 4 wheels weighing more than a non drivewheel hub with their associated hardware (bearings etc). The transfer case itself is present in addition to the transaxle which is heavier due to beefed up internals and extra parts. Then add the elctronics that controll it all, mounts, etc. Id say about 250#

260WHP with a 25% loss would be 325 Crank HP. That about 276WHP with 15% loss.

260WHP in a circa 3300# car is 12.69 ratio.
300WHP in a circa 3500# car is 11.67 ratio.

Trade traction for power to the wheels and less weight and watch those numbers converge. Or dont and go for awesome 60 foots since its stupid easy to get another 50HP anyway.

Edit: So if you have 276RWHP and you just dropped a conservative 200lbs (compare the Evo weights to Lancer weights) you have a IX that weighs about 3200# and 276WHP for a ratio of 11.59.

Then of course theres the fact that DAs affect each differently, the fact that nobody has even looked at gear ratios quantitatively, and nobody has covered the fact that one car might be easier to drive than the other. the fact that traction on the street sucks. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Gearing:

Evo:
1st--2.928:1
2nd--1.950:1
3rd--1.407:1
4th--1.031:1

F-Body:
1st--2.660:1
2nd--1.780:1
3rd--1.300:1
4th--1.00:1

So The Evo is making say 235WTQ bone stock while the F-Body is at 300WTQ bone stock. They do a roll. What was a 235WTQ force at a 1:1 ratio is actaully about 690WTQ in 1st gear for the Evo. Similarly, the F-Body lays out around 800WTQ at peak in 1st. This does not take into accoutn traction or weight though. Not to mention Evos run over a 4.10:1 final drive to the stock F-bodies 2.73-3.23. Close? Yep. As the Evos gearing advantage decreases, you do see the LS1s greater power take over, but he will have to work for it.

Will the F-body win in a race that lasts longer than 1/4 miles under standard atmo conditions with equal drivers, same gas, and the chi of the stars in balance? Yes.

Can the Evo utilize its natural advantages (gearing, traction, and weight) to overcome the power deficit under non-optimal conditions? Yes.

Are both cars capable of stupid power levels reliably and streetably? Yes.

Can a stockish Evo IX kill some LS1 of unknown mods/condition/skill? Yes.

Look people, Buschur Racing does staged upgrades for Evos. With a MBC and exsaust and tune. (Which my car has and I consdier my DSM to be near stock) they get just under 300WTQ. Thats for $1000. Pump gas (94 octane, 91 or 93 is fine for the boost they ran, which was 20PSI) You can do it a hell of a lot cheaper at your local exsaust shop. I can show anybody who cares how to make an MBC for 30 bucks, and SAFCs are about 300 bucks. Not to mention Buschurs' tune is kinda conservative. That kind of power will put you in the 12s with plenty of breathing space.

Now go look at what F-Bodies will run with a grand. You get yourself a cat-back (or cut-out ) and Lid. Get it tuned or maybe some better rubber. Congradulations, you're at solid mid-12s.

And A mild modded LS1 will run mid 12s all day. A mild Evo will run 12s all day. Either car will kick the others *** under various conditions and mod levels. Thats it.

I probably dug up an old post, but after arguing with my buddy wesman on another board I decided to google him.

I just wanted to say for the record that I could care less who's car does what stock for stock, I only care what my car and the lane next to me has, and if I have enough. That's all that should matter.

I've gotten into so many **** slinging contests on the net and in person I've never even had an argument about cars.

The closest I saw to anger was a dude near my age with a c5 zo6 that I squeeked out the kill.....he seemed not to like me after, but other then that its been all smiles and high fives =)
