Default C5 coupe auto vrs 04 cobra

Well I was on my way back from the track (Hawaii race way park) ...It was the last night the only track on the island would be open before permamently closing...

So Im on the freeway when I see a bluish purpleish Cobra pulling up fast( couldnt tell what color it was it almost looked like the color was changing..maybe after market?)..

He pulls up to my left and gives me a decent sounding rev. I then return the favor with a rev from the catless non mufflered, borla straight pipe exhaust. If races were about sound I defiently blew his doors off.. After my rev his facial expression seemed to change....

So I motion to slow down and we slow down to 30 mph ( my sweet spot) he gives the 3 beeps and hits it a little before I do...At 40 mph were side by side and then I just start pulling on him ( actually pretty easily) At 100 mph he's about 3 cars back and I hit the breaks to slow down with a huge grin on my face..

He rolls down the window and claimed that he missed a gear and says to do it again from a 70 mph roll...So we get lined up at 70 mph and he dose the 3 beep again...We hit it at the same time and By 80 mph Im already half a car on him...Then he starts falling back at a pretty good clip..

I stay in if since he's not letting off and by 135 mph Im a solid 5-7 cars in front of him...

We slow down and he motions for me to follow him...I follow him and we take a exit and go to a Chevron gas station..

He gets out and we talk for a bit. He says WOW that things fast. I thought I would beat you easily...

Then I say oh well what do you have done??? He says it's bone stock ( at this point im thinking then why did you think you would beat me easily) but refrain from being rude..

He tells me that he just got from the drag strip and ran a 13.3 at 107 mph. I tell him thats pretty good cas my friends 03 Cobra when stock ran a 13.4 at 107 and the fastest one at the track ran a 13.2 at 108 mph bone stock.

He says thanks for the compliment and ask what mine runs...I said 12.8 at 110-111 mph but it's not stock. He then ask what I ran stock and I told him 13.5 at 103 mph ( that seemed to make him feel a little better)

I then told him that my friend who ran 13.4 stock now runs 12.1 at 113 mph with only the next lower stage pully..exhaust and mickey thomson tires. So If he just changes his pully and an exhaust it will be a much better race next time...

He should be around 12.6 at 113 mph on regular street tires at MY TRACK with those mods...

We shook hands and then went our seperate ways..Nice guy..

I new based off what I run now modded and what they run stock that i could beat a stock one. I just never expected to actually run into a ( stock one)...

Kinda sucks to know that after spending 4 grand on mods and installs that all he has to do is spend 700 bucks on a pully and exhaust and he'll be equal or faster than me.

But oh well..Atleaste I won this time

DISCLAIMER**** BEFORE ALL THE FORD GUYS START SAYING THAT 12.8 IS STOCK COBRA TERRITORY......AT MY TRACK THEY RUN LOW 13'S AT BEST****

-2002 Z06's run 12.9-13.2 here at best
-2002 vipers run 12.7-13.0 here at best
-2003 cobras run 13.2-13.5 here at best
-coupe C5's run 13.4-13.7 here at best
-Fbody's run .....13.5-13.8 here at best

Hawaii air sucks and the track goes at an incline ( uphill for the Ford guys)

WOW, those are pretty slow times per your disclaimer. I guess it is hot and humid out there. The paint is called Mystichrome and it does change color. The leather on the seats, etc also has those characterics. Most pullied cobras are in the 11's with drag radials.

Nice kill man! I know you Chevy boys love putting the hurt on Cobra's as we love putting the hurt on you too. Your C5 Vette sounds like a strong runner for an automatic. By the way, FEARSM, your Supra is damn sick looking. What kind of power and torque numbers does that beast put down and what kind of track numbers do you have with it, if you don't mind my asking? Anyways, take it easy guys.

Thanks man. I am having timing issues at the moment. Beforehand the car put donw 600 rwhp 540 TQ @ 28 psi on meth/water and 92 pump gas. Last week I dynoed at 540 rwhp 490 tq on C16 so I am down on power a bit. Saturday the car ran a 10.75 at 124 mph so it hooks but just dies on the top end. Once I go to a standalone computer and fix my issues I expect the car to run low 10's high 9's at 135+.

I run in 90 degree heat with 90% humidity sometimes with the DA way up there. I still
went 13.0 @ 111mph on a 2.4 60' in stock trim. What's the elevation out there?

Thumbs up

Could be the elevation, the DA or the magic fairy-dust they sprinkle on the track.

Sounds like you have the faster car, nice kill!

The track goes uphill..no joke....

Just look how slow my Vette is with the mods it has..

At a normal track it should be like this since my bone stock power was 299 rwhp..

stock..13.2 at 105
LS6 heads 13.0 at 107
224 cam....12.6 at 111
no cats.....12.5 at 112
vararam intake...12.3 at 114
borla exhaust....12.3 at 114 ( just sound with about 20 pounds weight savings since no mufflers)....

But at this track with an 1/8 tank of gas the best I would do is a 12.7 at 111..( ran the 12.80 at 110.85 with a little over a half tank)...

So it's not just the humidity..It's the incline ( or the track going uphill for the Ford Guys)

Wink

lol...75/80 Drag-a-Way in Maryland is like that.
I ran at least .3-.4 slower there in every car I raced between there, Crapitol and Cecil County.
Standing at the starting line, it even looks uphill over the last 500-600 feet.

Afirmative, lol, it's no doubt uphill! And it is crapital. I spend allot of time there mostly. It's just convient. Cecil County is the best one. I think it's downhill, lol.

Cecil has the magical air!
However, when I raced at SSOTN there last fall, I ran .2-.3 slower than I had run at Atco a few weeks before, and the air at Cecil was better that day.
I was on a new clutch, but I was still puzzled.
