Default SS Camaro vrs. M-Roadster Bay Area CA

A couple of days ago I raced a Red late model SS Camaro (I believe it had black racing stripes and open exhaust) with my 2001 M Roadster.

Happened on highway 101 Northbound by SF Airport, Bay Area. Going from about 50-60mph the BMW pulled the Camaro by 2 cars by 140mph (3-4 times). I Just wanted to say good run and to see if SS Camaro driver is a member of this board.

Do you have any mods?

How much bhp do US M roadsters have, in the UK and Europe they had 320bhp but I've heard US ones only had like 240bhp.

Either way is that was a LS1 SS you raced I can't see it pulling that distance at those speeds stock for stock. LS1's pull easy upto just under 160mph where they hit the speed limiter.

Maybe it was a LT1 engined car you raced.

Still nice kill

Thank you,

My car is a 02 M Roadster that comes with the same motor the M3 does (S54) developing 333hp (315 in the roadster due to shorter exhaust).

Stock 1/4mile is 13.2. My car's mods are 373 gears (stock 307) and an CAI.

The car I raced is a definitely late model ls1 camaro with mods since it kept up with me very well.

The 240hp M's were from 1998-2000. 01 & 02 have the S54 motor.

I raced an M roadster and am still beating myself up trying to figure out which one it was, WE WERE DEAD EVEN!!! and I should have 270-290 whp in a 3500# car (me in it included) with 4.10's Could the 240bhp roadster in any way be DEAD EVEN with me from a 60-100 roll? I mean, NOBODY moved, DEAD even. (for comparison, i ran a GTO that trapped 109 and from 55to95 he would have pulled 1.5 or so cars on me had he not lost 1 car length to a missed shift and had to pull it back.)

PS I LOVE THOSE ///M CARS!!!!

So the M roadster is faster than the M3? Didn't know that.

The E46 M3 isn't heavy either, from what I can remember it's on par with a C5 or so. The CSL version weighs even less.

My car after removing some minor stuff weighs 2900lbs even. E46 M3 is about 3300lbs or so stock.

My bad I hadn't realised that that engine was in that model year M although thinking about it I guess it must be as I watched a cool race between a TVR Tamora and a M Roadster (UK model still had the 333bhp engine I believe). The TVR literally walked away from the BMW mind, but it did have a healthy power and weight advantage.

I guess im confused a little. We have a car that weighs in at 2900-3200 pounds (M roadster) witch produces 315 Bhp not sure how much your mods yeild?. And in the other corner we have a car that might weight in at 3200-3500 pounds which you say it was an early LS1 with exhaust so maybe having close to 300 Whp. and you pulled that hard on it. Not taking anything away from you, im just confused on how that equation works out I guess. Regardless nice kill!!

eh?

Lighter car with similar power should pull on heavier car - easy

And since when have LS1 Fbody's been 3200lb stock maybe more like 3500-3600lb.

I've always like the M roadster hardtop. I got shocked by a 540I when I was stock. It caught me by surprise. I finally caught him and pullled in 3rd, but I was very impressed.
