Default 94Z vs 99TA: NEED OPINIONS

Well this is kind of difficult because its me racing my best friend. He talks so much smack though about how crappy my LT1 is and how his LS1 is godly..

The race will be on the street, not the highway. It will most likely be a dig to about 80-90ish.

My current mods: intake,exhaust,3.73's,shift kit,tuning

his car: 99 TA M6, lid, smooth bellows, catback

I am very consistent with my a4 with launching; he is a good driver. I know that my car is definitely stronger in the first 2 gears and I should get at least a 1.5 car lead right away but I'm just nervous about it. My car comes out of the shop with a new shift kit on it soon so how will this work out?

He will pull once his RPM's come up.

You have gears so if you launch right you might be even for a bit, but I think he will still pull you before 80mph.

Race then tell us how it happened!!! Bench racers like to find out if they were right.

Sounds like you're going to take him down the 1/8 if u can drive but then you'll get pulled. Get those headers and stall in there and he's toast. The headers woke my car up immensely.

I'm having ceramic coated RK Sport mids and y-pipe put on this weekend. Will I notice much of a difference with my mods? Will I be able to hang with a stock LS1?

One thing is for sure on LT1's, the stock manifolds suck MAJOR ***.

As you sit I think you will get pulled. Same for Shackleford, you would hang much better with the headers though.

Don't forget that there are low power LS1's and excellent running LT1's and the Lt1's CAN win, it's just not the norm at all.

Headers wake these cars up SOOOOO much it's ridiculous. Typically with LT headers, catback, cai and a tune these cars see about 300 rwhp in an M6.

by 80 no, by 100 yes mabey more. Get those headers and stall in there and it will be another story.

my car with just a stall and gears, could hang with my roomates 02 M6 z to around 50-55 with no problem usually put a car to 2 off the line. Then get pulled hard after that. He will go by you like a freight train.

Lt1s can't breath..

If he can drive then you'll likely lose. I know it's not what you wanted to hear but the fact is he isn't stock either. He also has a solid 50 rwhp advantage and if launched properly could keep pace with you in 1st gear and pull you in every other gear.

Here is a video of LS1 against LT1 with both being close to stock.

http://video.ls1tech.com/category/Fi...33D27B1F2D.htm

Once you have the stall and Headers it'll be a whole new ball game. But run him and give it your best. If he doesn't launch good then you have a shot.

Good Luck.

Man that video is ugly. I might just have the stall in for the race now. This is really erking me.

Don't feel bad about losing or having a slower car. At least you know what yours is capable of ya know? It's like comparing your car to a Ferrari and feeling bad that it's slower. You know it's not as fast, it was built to be faster.

Ya got what ya got, just mod up andthen beat him.

Until you do get the headers and stall, he will win. Just because he bought a faster car doesn't make him god, just a guy that bought a different car ya know?

When I had my 95' LT1 w/2.73 and Moroso, i ran a LS1 TA with a tune, and some other minor junk and it took him until 50 to pass me, but when he did, it was over. He was A4 btw. I would say it will be a very close race, just DONT go from a roll

Yep thx for the advice. I'm actually kind of confident going into it.

For me its just launch at 1500 on my KDWS's, chirp a little bit and my 1st gear pulls STRONG. He will definitely have to play catch up, I just have to hope he wont do it too quickly.

From what you say from a dig you should be okay, but 80 or 90 gives him a LOT of time for that closely geared LS1 to catch up, i just dont know man, i wouldnt put my money on either of you unless a gun was to my head, then I would pick you, less stress with the A4. He might mess up and get owned
