Several people know "someone" locally who have honda's and acura's in the 10's, and one server had a stock saturn ion that ran mid 11's, but her mom made her sell it.
I just listen to these guy's and grin.
And no, the older muscle car's for the most part were not fast by today's standard's.
I had a 71 Roadrunner, 383 ci., 3.91 posi, lt's, edelbrock intake manifold, dual point ignition with a holley 4bbl.
Best run ever was a 14 flat on cool day. Slow, but back then there was not many car's that could touch it in the small town I lived in.

it did not come in the car but ford did make a 352 in the sixties.

Oh yeah, no doubt. It was funny because afterwards my buddy was all ready to race. Just to keep a long story short, I waxed his *** with just a lid and crappy tires. Afterwards he just couldn't believe it. He says "but Steve said I would whoop you off the line."
I said "Yeah, but how many 50' races have you been in."

Everytime I run someone and win, they say they're going to call their friend and he'll beat me.

I actually ran a "JDM Type-R" swapped Teg or something like that, just because he wouldn't stop running his mouth...after I beat him, they called their friend in an SRT-4 that had "never been beat." He had more boost, cutout, the usual skittle stuff, and spray. I beat him, and they all left....but they'd be back next weekend with someone who would wax me!

We tried to get it going 100mph one day, but she just didn't have it'en her.
You can floor this little bastard and it will wind up and rev real hard, but it doesnt go anywhere. It gets me a laugh everytime.
You can't beat it because it doesnt have enough power to hurt anything.
The frames on these cars are really small, I sure as hell wouldn't want to get in a accident in one. I hate little cars.

I have had a low 12 second car to 9 second car(s) since 1990....I heard so many times EVERY ******* YEAR mind you "yeah, I will be putting out insane numbers on my car this summer, it will definately be in the 9's I'll race you for sure"...guess what, it never happens. I must have heard this literally 50 times in my life. People are so insecure, and hate to be beat...they always have to talk ****...of course the guys that have done this year after year, are also, divorced, bankrupt, working crappy jobs, etc. Its really a personality disorder that "comes out" in the form of a skewed view of competition involving cars. Sad, but very funny for me!

I sir have a mid to low 14 second car and I am ok with that. I have been beat by both Dodge and Ford Diesels and a couple of V8 chevy cars. The only 4 cylinder I have ever lost to was an STI and I am ok with that. I have no problem with winning and no problem with losing. A race is a race I am just in it for the fun.

yup, i'm with you. if they beat me fair and square and if they give me the thumbs up, they get one right back regardless of whether or not i like their car. respect the other guy when you're with them as long as they're a good guy.

I've raced people in the "Beasts" and they never say "ok, I got beat". ESPECIALLY when they think they are in hot rides. For instance, this guy in a Magnum wagon. Had the 22" rims and stereo loud enough for god to hear. Every stoplight for about a mile he would blast off thinking he killed me. It was not bad enough that he could not get me to go, so now he's reving me and grinning like "you don't want any of this...". So when I put the smash on him 4 TIMES!!!, he comes up saying "I don't have the right size rims" and "I have all this weight", but it was fine when he was killing me at the light...

352's were fairly common year's ago. Untill someone pointed out otherwise, I had thought that they only came in pickup's.
But that really wasn't what i was getting at.
Anyone who has ever built a fast car would know what kind of engine it had.
And especially if said car run's in the 9's like this guy say's his did.
You don't put that much time, energy and $$$ to build a fast car and then not know the powerplant.
Dude was just being one of those bullshit artist's most of us had run into at one time or another.

no doubt VTEC is an amazing technology, it's just wasted on honda turds...

if they adapted variable valve timing for V8 engines, it would be great. you'll need a double overhead camshaft motor to make it happen though. GM should be going this route soon with their V8's. they're running out of room with these pushrod motors. the LS7 is pretty much maxed out and its compression is through the roof for a stock motor. i predict in 10 years, GM's going to have DOHC V8's, and who knows, maybe a General Motors version of variable valve timing. i'd love to see it. imagine a V8 that has the feel of a baby cam down low that gets 30mpg cruising around town, but you'd have the feel of a t-rex up top in an engine that could saftely rev to 9 grand on stock bottom end and 10 - 11 grand on built parts! DOHC is the way to go, no matter how much we hate to admit it.

Im often the guy with a friend that has a faster car, two one is a girl with a 10.91 second VR4 the other is a dude with a not streetable 8second fox. I only bring them up when talking about amazing **** Ive seen. Talking about how fast your car is a racing are two different things, the bullshit stops when the throttle drops. I tell people Im running a 6cyl with open manifolds and Im running 16s. I dont wanna know what you're running till you put it down. I can tell Im gonna loose to someone by eye balling a car. Running a car with DRs or Slicks with sticky rubber in the wheel wells is always a nono for me. Immaculate paint job imports with 4k $ rims why not, I keep an eye out for what the owner had in mind.

I personally don't care if it's a hemi 'cuda with a 6-71 blower sticken out of the hood.
If the road is clear and the dude's game I'll give 'er a shot.
Meet some pretty cool people that way.

The new 3V GT's have VVT (Variable Valve Timing). That is what makes them more of a beast then the 2V and have a little more potential than the 4V

How could it have more potential? I think the 3v is junk compared to the 4v. Of course, I might be a little biased, being an ex-svt owner
