I think the GT500 has lots of potential. It's to bad it's so damn heavy! From what I hear, you can do a pulley swap like the 03/04 Cobras. Just like the Cobras, they will be fast with minimal mods. How fast is the question. You can only do so much about the weight. Rear seat delete and no spare/jack is not worth that much. Maybe 60lbs at most. Still not enough to make a huge difference.

there have been quite a few that have been purchased at msrp. you just have to know the right people or been a great repeat customer for a dealership...

One or two examples don't count, becuase you can say the exact same thing about the GT500. Dealers regardless of brand are only people at the end of the day, they all have friends, family and customers.

It takes work to find one at MSRP, but they are out there. MSRP = the dealer makes plenty of money.http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...highlight=MSRP

OMG.... Im just making a point that you can make a performance car safe while keeping it under 3500-3600lbs. Im not comparing MB or BMW with a Mustang.... Its just an example to show you how cars can be made lighter while keeping the cost relatively down. The SL is a conv. which has a solid roof that weighs at least 200-300lbs with all the equipment and structure work that makes it work. For example the GT500 conv. weighs another 100-140lbs extra which puts it around 4060lbs or so and that is with a soft roof.

personally i think it's ugly. the '02-'04 model years were the best looking IMO (and sounded damn good too. the 4.6L 'stang and even moreso, a cammed 5.0 'stang are the best sounding cars out there). the new 'stangs are fat, boring and have no inspiration. they don't sound nearly as good for some reason too they lack throatyness like the anemic '98 GT.

Me too. I'm not a special customer and don't know anyone "in the buisness". This past weekend I stopped at a local Chevy lot and they had a bright red brand spankin' new Z for 73k and change.

That's a crock of ****! I just checked with F.C. Kerbeck, "the worlds largest Corvette dealer" if you believe their hype, and you can't touch an 07 Z06 for under $10k over MSRP! I checked their website too, and sure enough, says *not available at MSRP* and the lowest sticker price is $73k, so that means a minimum of $83k out the door! Now that's a deal!!

New 2007 Inbound Corvette Z06 *Not available at MSRP
Stock # Photo Style Exterior Interior Trans Equipment MSRP
N/A Z06 Velocity Yellow Ebony Manual QL9, 2LZ, UE1, U3U, Call for Premium Pricing, Not Available at MSRP $74,640
N/A Z06 Victory Red Ebony Manual Q44, 2LZ, UE1, U3U, Call for Premium Pricing, Not Available at MSRP $73,890
N/A Z06 Atomic Orange Ebony/Titanium Manual QL9, 2LZ, UE1, U3U, Call for Premium Pricing, Not Available at MSRP $74,640
N/A Z06 Machine Silver Ebony/Titanium Manual QL9, 2LZ, UE1, U3U, Call for Premium Pricing, Not Available at MSRP $73,890

This is the same as back in 2001. I walked into different Chevy dealerships in and around Dallas where I lived at the time. No one would deal with me. They wanted $5K over sticker cuz people were paying that. So, I was referred to George Armos at Les Standford Chevy in Dearborn, Michigan by a fellow corvette enthusiast who did a deal with him on a Z51 coupe. My price- $3500 below. So, for $8500 difference I booked a <$200 one way flight to Detroit and picked me up my current C5Z06 and it 1100 miles back home via Kentucky (had to see the plant and museum of course).

Not saying they aren't out there, but hay could you have bought one at MSRP 4-6 weeks after they went on sale?? - NO.

Give the GT500 a while in the market and the price will drop also.

This isn't a dig at you, but you do seem to be seeing it from only one side of the coin.

Annoying or not, facts are facts. Or are you just going to behave like you did over at Stangnet before they banned you?
