EXCELLENT FEEDBACK!
Thank you for writing this up & being our 1st official (Ginny pig) I mean "WILD STANG". I completely understood everything you wrote & think you should send this to an editor of one the magazines for publishing so others know of this great untapped horsepower. Now go find a Z06 and show them who's BOSS!
.....What a ****** moron...

Owner of a real GT500 just had it weighed at Steeda. 3910 lbs. with a full-tank of fuel (16-gallons) and the optional Shaker 1000 stereo. The Shaker 1000 has a trunk mounted sub box and I believe additional amplifiers (don't forget wiring, switches, etc.). Split the difference of opinion on the added weight of the 1000 over the Shaker 500 and say it ads ~50lbs. So figure with a 1/4 tank of gas, it would drop ~75lbs. and another ~50lbs. with the sound system and they may be lighter than reported at around ~3780 lbs., which is about 125lbs. heavier than an '03/'04 Cobra.

50 more CI is what everyone seems to forget about. These cars wil be fast, Basic bolt on GTs are running high 12s@3600# Na with a 3v 4.6.
Low 11s high 10s in a bolt on Shelby will be the norm in a year or so..........bet on it

Problems I have with the statement of this car being a "collector" car:
1) The "GT500" badge is just a substitute for the "Cobra" moniker. It's not anything above and beyond a next gen Cobra for the Mustang.
2) For $4x,000, why the solid axle? Wouldn't that same target audience want a smooth ride and better handling for their money? Odds are they aren't going out to Woodward Ave to drag, so no need for the suspension downgrade.
3) Iron block. Again, safety for (warranties perhaps) extra boost, but if it's not going to be made for the average drag racer, why the need for the extra weight (and corresponding almost 60/40 weight bias)?
With all that said, I do like the GT5 alot. It's growing on me the more I see pictures of it and read about it. However, I think that the car is somewhat of a middle child in the automotive world. It seems like it doesn't know whether it wants to be like it's Super Car world beater big bro the GT, and have big power and great balance, or be like it's no frills, fun to drive where ever, pony car the Mustang GT.
It seems clear that the GT5 cannot compete with a Zo6, as that is more GT territory, but it isn't in the same class as the C6 either. That's not to say it's not as high on the food chain, it's just that the GT5 is on a separate food chain altogether. It's pure carnivore: straight line performance, massive torque thrust, and big smoking burnouts where the C6 is the omnivore: eating up both the straight line beef, but also dining on a curve or two.
What the GT5 really needs is a counterpart (read: CAMARO). The baddest mustang has always defined itself by it's enemy from cross town. It is an automotive itteration of what life would be like if there were all good and no evil, all black and no white ... lost. That's what the GT5 is: a hero with no villian to thwart (or vice versa for the Camaro guys).
The best way to view the GT5 is to look at it up against a car like the SRT8 Charger, which is another 40k car with over 400hp. But somehow these comparisons just don't measure up. The Charger is just a rebound girl after a bad breakup. What the GT5 needs is a good kick in the face to wake it up and show it exactly what it is supposed to be: a muscle car. I can only think of two letters powerful enough to jack up a 500hp boosted Mustang:
SS.
