After my Son got out of the ICU, we were looking to get him a toy and considered an LS-1 swap for an FD. I mean why not? Ya get the power and reliability of the LS-1 and it only weighs what? 40 Lbs. more than the rotary? That's a no-brainer to me. That being said, we went with a nice 2G DSM GSX with ALL of the goodies, FPGreen yada yada. Saved about 5 grand for decent performance with 450 AWHP. If the DSM can't do the job, we'll just roll out the Brute to play.

Stock 1998 Supra runs 13.6 at 106 on average...

Stock 03 Cobra runs 13.0 at 110 on average...

The Cobra will kick the Supras A** every single time stock for stock..

Now give the bone stock Supra the BPU upgrades ( ther basics) and your looking at roughly 375 rwhp for the Supra now...

Comparing the 375 rwhp BPU Supra to the bone stock 03 Cobra pushing 365 rwhp will now have the averge BPU Supra slightly ahead.

1998 BPU Supra.......12.8 at 112 mph on avewrage

Stock 03 Cobra........13.0 at 110 mph on average

But now to make it fare with basic mods vrs basic mods give the 03 Cobra a 2.8 pully and a simple X pipe..This 03 Cobra will now be pushing 430 rwhp and now easily overtake the BPU Supra.

Pullied and X pipe 03 Cobra.....12.4 at 116 mph on averge

BPU 1998 Supra....................12.8 at 112 mph on averge

You can do the numbers all day andf keepadding arts and parts..

But what you'll find is that the 03 Cobra only cost half as much to go faster....and despite all modifications the FI V6 of the Supra was already at a handicap from the beginning when pitted against the FI V8...

The 13.6 vrs 13.0 on average stock for stock is actualy QUITE SIGNIFICANT....

Before any Supra or Cobra owners start throwing a little girlfit about my numbers...

YES I REALIZE THAT ONE MAGAZINE GOT A SUPRA TO DO 13.1

YES I REALIZE THAT ONE MAGAZINE GOT THE 03 COBRA TO DO 12.7

YES I RELIZE THAT PERSONAL OWNERS CLAIM THAT THEY GOT THE STOCK 03 COBRA TO RUN LOW TO MID 12'S AND YES I REALIZE THAT SUPRA OWNERS CLAIM TO HAVE GOTTEN THEIR STOCK CARS TO RUN MID TO HIGH 12'S...

But I dont care about those type of numbers. I care about what is average or more likely to be seen at the strip by decent drivers...

So while I would rather have a Supra than a 03 Cobra. The nod still goes to the Cobra as far as acelleration is concerned.

A bpu supra can make much more than what you have claimed. You can make over 450 with stock twins and these have pushed supras intto the 10's. With an intercooler upgrade, dp, exhaust, boost controller you can easily spank a bolt on cobra.

True, but how do you know the Supra was BPU? What about BPU+, BPU++, BPU+++, etc.? They are about the same in the acceleration category, mod for mod. There are stock eaton Cobras in the 10's, and stock twin Supras in the 10's.

In your little thing where you compared the cars, you gave the Cobra a boost increase (Smaller pulley) but didn't increase boost on the Supra. Sure the BPU mods will increase boost since more air will flow, but I mean controlled boost.

But like you said, you could do the parts thing all day. I do not see how a Cobra would be half as cheap? Used Cobra, 26K, used Supra, 23K. Supra might spend a bit more in mods, but I don't see a half there. Also Supra is not a V6.

I think it would cost more to build a 800+hp cobra than a supra.

Supra:

Greddy t88 kit -4500
fuel system -2000
standalone-2000
clutch- 2500
guages-1000
suspension-1000

Total 13,000 for a 800+hp supra

That sounds good in theory, but not really that easy.
Greddy T88-34D Kit-$4500
Fuel System-2000
Standalone-2000
Clutch-2500
Guages-1000
Suspension-1000
Tires-500 for just rears
Tuning-500
Intercooler-1000
Cooling-500
Exhaust-1000
Cams-1000
Etc.-1000

I would assume a 800 hp Cobra would require a turbo... I don't know if a Kenne Belle or Whipple Cobra with a shot could even make 800...

Anyway, point is, they are fairly even in the accel. aspect.

Not sure where you are getting your BPU data from but its not correct at all.
My lowest trapping BPU car was my 97 auto I currently have now and it was at 115. Autos trap lower than 6 spds. My highest trapping car was 120 at BPU. All were raced here at HRP. I have had 4 to date.

I can only really see a Supra beating a Cobra on the freeway. But I have seen more Cobras faster in the 1/4 than Supras. Not saying that a Supra cant take a Cobra in the 1/4.

Thats all driver related. There were 2 KB cobras here that couldnt break out of the 11's when I was doing 10's. All of us were on Drag radials.

I'm sure you have. I don't see many Supras anyway, but when I do, they are on street tires and either big singles or they have like only an exhaust. You don't see many drag Supras, but ALL you see is drag Cobras. Every Cobra I saw at the track had like 305 Nittos.

And def. don't say they can't take them at the track. Supras def. have better times than IRS Cobras.

WOW, so just because a Cobra has 305's it is a DRAG car now huh??? Every supra I usually see has some fat deep dish rims outs back and guess what has usually 305's or bigger out back. And then I never said they cant beat them at the track. And last time I went to the track the fastest Supra was running 12.2 while a 04 Cobra was running 11.5 and this was a street legal night. BTW, the Supra I raced had to have at least some 295's in the back.

The title for my 89 says Mustang 4cyl.
Would anyone on this site consider it a 4 banger? I think not.

I think all you dudes have valid points but....are looking into this way too deeply. Your all speculating on parts,...and different possabilities....different combo's.

Anything can be anything....bottom line,...homeboy's cobra, with it's mild bolt-ons to out a supra that simply didn't have what it took to take him out. Simple as that.

Congrat's on the run man....i'm sure it was a rush. Good kill. I personally don't get a chance to run with supra's too often. I just don't see them at the right time I guess.

Well mine says 1.3L rotary. Do I consider it a rotary? NO. But I do consider it a RX-7. I guess your car isn't a mustang.

[QUOTE=25psi]I think it would cost more to build a 800+hp cobra than a supra.

Supra:

Greddy t88 kit -4500
fuel system -2000
standalone-2000
clutch- 2500
guages-1000
suspension-1000

Actually,

Just finished purchasing the mods listed below from Dusty at MVP and total shipped was $11,038 and projected rwhp will be 900 crank over 1000. It's a 97 Supra with low miles, bottom does not need building.

Here is the list for anyone who wants to know.

Boost Logic Turbo Kit for 1993-98 Supra TT, T76 Turbo with 4" DP/MP $4,380.00
Boost Logic Complete Fuel System with 1000cc Injectors $1,750.00
AEM ECU with uego wide band and all sensors needed $2300
RPS Max Pressure Plate $460
RPS 6 puck composite disc $210
RPS Flywheel $400
HKS DLI II $375
HKS 272 Cams $840
Greddy Timing Belt $123
Insurance $55
Shippng $145

I am sure you need more than that though. What about an exhaust, intercooler, cooling, tires, etc. If you could make one that much HP that cheap then damn, that would be awesome!
