Default GEN 1 Viper all that quick?

How would a stock Gen 1 RT-10 Viper do against a 400+rwtq F-body? Roll racing of course...
Reason asking is my boss has one, and I think I can beat his car with my H/C, all bolt on Formula. Any one think that i don't stand a chance because of it's displacent and the fact that it is a "Viper".

I definately think that you will win. my money would be on the F-body!

well. the first gens were rather sorry. however you better watch out if its a venom series. you got the year of it? I can get some specs for you

**actually heres some info, These are specs for a 1996 Viper and that was with the 1st gen so they cant be to off if any.

-Power: 313 kW , 420 HP @ 5,200 rpm; 490 ft lb @ 3,700 rpm
3.07 gearing so hes got a fairly high top speed but not so much for acceleration

It depends on the year. If it's a 96 watch out. When they first came out (I think in 93, but i'm not sure), they had 415hp at the flywheel. That year really wouldn't do much to your car, as it ran a 13.1 sec. at 110mph 1/4 mile. In 96 The Viper got a boost to 450hp, and ran low 12's at 115mph 1/4 mile. They have really long gearing in any iteration.

The 96 would give you a very good run, and possibly beat you, depending on your setup. They dyno over 390whp from what i've read.

In the ends, who cares, you'll be losing to a Viper. It's not like you're losing to an SRT-4 :p

I remember him saying it was the first year they had offered A/C, and it is a factory spec'd Viper, maybe a 95? It has the side pipes. I know that they are TQ MONSTERS! But that may be its dis-advantage, even for the 335 tires! I told him I may get out on him, but he would probably close the pull and maybe do some walking! I really need to line up against that car!

*EDIT* It's a 95

My car runs 12.0's@115 and I destroyed a Gen1 Viper. I don't think you'll have a problem with it.

Please keep in mind that the gen 1's dyno 370-390 at the wheels accompanied by 425-445 rwt!!!!!! Combine this with 3400 pounds and you have a car that runs dead nuts with a manual C6 and barely gets edged out by the C5Z06..

Many peole have run mid 12's in 100% bone stock gen 1's.. I think you still got him but dont underestimate the car....13.1 is the slowest mag time you can find

You can find people (professional drivers) running 13.1s in bone stock F-Bodys with quality street tires too so that's really a moot point.

Does your F-Body have gears? 6 speed? A4? had it on a dyno? What heads cam package?

I disagree, a C5Z06 will mop the floor with a Gen1.

edged out..mopp the floor....Same thing to different people...

C5Z06 runs 12.5 at 115 mph on average....Gen 1 viper runs 12.8 at 112 mph on average....

But on a roll race with them both at 70 mph and punching it will be a race to close to call...

Go to variuos sites and look up the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times for the gen 1's....Their faster than you think.

I just went and found another review that said a stock 1992 Viper can do 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds and run the 1/4 at 12.9 @113.8 mph. Also had a top speed of 165 mph...

Yea the ET at 12.9 for that particular test isnt anything special..But nearly 114 mph is defiently a fast car from a roll..

Remember that actual owners have gotten these cars to run mid 12's bone stock...

Much like how all the reviews say that F body's only run 13.5-13.9...But we usually do better than what the tester did...

The only way your gonna run a high 13 in a Fbody or low 13 in a gen 1 Viper is if you leave all the air in the tire...Cars like these are hard to hook.

But to the guy who said some Fbody owners hit 13.1 meaning it's close to the rt 10 in performance...A few people have ran LOW 12's in bone stock Gen 1's with crazy 60 ft's on stock tires...

Like I said.. 113.8 mph trapp speeds arent quite up to C5Z06 116 mph trapp speeds. But thats still very fast.

Forget all the numbers in the magazine. Can your boss drive? I know going from a roll takes some driving skill out of it, but honestly, if the guy doesnt know when to shift and cant hit gears, you should pull him easily.

If you are making 400 at the wheels youll probably edge him out if he is stock. But the Viper is a beast in 4th. You would probably be better served from a dig, especially if his tires are not 100%, he will just spin those 335's

I have personally seen 2 94's RT/10's on new street tires with just K&N and Smooth Tubes run 12.5's and sears point (infineon now).

That aint bad for 12 year old stock car :-)

With all that being said I beleave the 400 rwhp and 400 rwt 3500 pound F body should be able to take the 380 rwhp and 435 rwt 3400 pound gen 1 viper....

But if drivers are equal then it's not gonna be that easy...F body's really trapp only around 105 mph on average..Yea you here stories of people trapping 110 mph but you see a lot more people trappin 102 mph than 110 mph in stock F bodies...

So if the F body averages 105 mph and the gen 1 Viper averages 112 mph...Well 7 mph isnt really a small differance..

Making a Fbody that averages 105 kill a C5 that averages 107 isnt that hard..

Making a Fbody that averages 105 beat a 03 Cobra that averages 109 takes a little time and money..

Making a Fbody that averages 105 kill a gen 1 Viper that averages 112 is pretty serious modding...

To be honest...when I went from 299 rwhp bone stock to 378 rwhp modded I only gained 7 mph in the 1/4 mile....

PLEASE GET THIS ONE ON VIDEO

I have run one from a 3rd gear punch. My car only traps 115, it isn't by any means a freak. They are slugs compared to the GTS's from my experience.
If you'd like to compare apples to apples I'd bet the 95 ZR-1 would walk it also. I'm not hating on Vipers, I love the SRT's and GTS's. I understand you have a Gen1 so naturally you'll defend it.

I raced a gen1 and hung with him pretty nice until we shut down at 125. I have 350rwhp.

He was about 1-1.5 cars ahead.....
