I am considering a 02-04 GT with LT's, CAI, o/r X-pipe, cat-back and a tune. Either that or an LS1 car. You have an M6 LS1 like what I want and only pulled the guy by 1-1.5 cars. Was he hanging or at 100 were you starting to really leave him. Would the GT modded like I stated above have a chance with a stock 6-speed LS1 F-bod, given = drivers ?
PS. Good kill!

The sotck GT isn't particularu slow, but with 260bhp SAE Net they are not fast either. At the track they tend to launch well so given the correct mods can be in the 12's but on the street from a roll they are just out muscled.
I know of a GT, pretty good driver. Done CAI, LT's, X pipe, exhaust, cams and heads. It was making ~280-290rwhp on a Dynojet. He ran 12.7 @ 107-108mph.
So a pretty decent ET, but look at the trap speed. A STOCK M6 Ls1 would easily rival it and from a roll would most likely win. And a well driven LS1 M6 with Dr's should be able to rival the ET also.
So from a performance stand point the LS1 is superior in this respect.
If you can buy the GT cheap enough to supercharge it then it will be more affective. However even blown GT's aren't always that fast. 420-450rwhp (Dynojet) is pretty much the limit on the stock internals and stock CR running on pump fuel. Now given the lighter weight of the GT they should run good. But a h/c Fbody can make similar power and for less money.
If ~400rwhp is you goal then a blown 2v GT is a great machine. If you ever want to push the HP up then a built engine is really needed. Plus you'll need to select the correct blower. The KB is nice but the stock kit only used to come with a 1.7 litre blower, which means its out of puff when a few bolt ons are added and you try and up the boost. The Procharger is pretty good, but more expensive if you want to get it fully sorted with an intercooler.
As you seem to be unimpressed with your 5.0 I personally feel a sn95 GT would be a mistake for you. A 99+ Cobra, Mach 1 or LS1 would be a much better bet. They are all faster stock and all much better at roll racing. Plus they will all respond better to mods than the GT.

Hey, you can make as much as if not MORE than 650RWHP with a KB 2V GT and a built shortblock. If you are not considering a new motor , tough to really be a threat. We sold my wifes' that had bolt ons and a 100 NX wet shot for an SRT-4..............

A new edge gt, with an n/a 4v mated to a t56. Bolt ons and suspension and you'd have a runner, plus it would be a nice sleeper if you kept the normal gt appearance.
I was seriously considering doing this a few months back, but I drove a friends 02gt, and I just couldn't get comfortable at all in it. OTOH my fox fits me perfectly.
Or just buy a mach1, or an ls1

1. cost, a 4v engine will set you back a fair wedge, and the 2v's are pricey to convert.
2. Why? The stock DOHC is a nice unit, but they are not monsters stock, which means even more money for mods. Plus if you beat anyone they will just assume nitrous or blower. Both would be cheaper options IMO.

Yeah I know what you mean. There was someone over at Stangnet a while back putting a 5.4 into a sn95, think it was a 3v unit. If the could get it setup well I think it had a decent chance of surprising quite a few people.

My buddy has a 00 GT with gears, tires, pullies, plenum, cold air, TB, x-pipe back exhaust, and i'll put a half car on him from 50/60-110 with me pulling. We're about even from a dig, a drivers race. Not bad for a LT1 with just a couple mods.
But I also stay dead even from 50-110 against a 00 WS6 with lid/full exhaust, so I might have more than just intake and catback...dunno
