surprised by 5.3L grand prix...
So i'm minding my own business at a stop light when some middle aged woman in a new grand prix pulls up next to me... then floors it on green and takes off like a rocket. So at the next light, i decide to give it a run and get on it about 80% of the line w/o trying to launch or anything. Spun through first a little and into second, got off it around 50-60 and looked back expecting to see headlights in the rearview mirror... but she was only about a car length back giving it full throttle.
Pretty impressive for a big car! Shocked me that it kept up that well to be honest. Thinking about getting my fiancee one now haha

These new LS4 Engine's are the real deal.....i wonder what would have happened if you had run into one of the new monte carlos ss's with the same engine......

It probably would have ended the same way... LS1's are faster then an stock LS4. An LT-1 would be a different story

well if i'd raced a monte SS and i noticed them right next to me, i had a significant amount of pedal to use to get ahead. i just massively underestimated a large car ;p
similar thing happened 2 weeks ago with a new charger... scared me a little... apparently the top-of-the-line charger would spank me.

IIRC isnt the record for the new ls4 in the mid to high 13s with simply removing the headlight and manually shifting the car (I remember someone mentioning an early 2-3 shift). IMpressive im my book for FWD

I don't know about that, but i do know that our cars are no walk in the park anymore. i've caught more than a few ls1 and lt1 (s) sleeping. Granted the LS1's pass me after about 60 or 70 but if your not paying attention the race can be close.

Autocrossed on them and they are pretty bad now. That's mostof the reason why i didnt try to get on it, bc i would've just sat at the light going sideways.

Well i have good tires and at 1/2 throttle it will spin through around 80% of first. I dont know about these montes keeping up tho... i know a guy that has one of the V8 montes and it does like 15s... the guy has a 9 second camaro so im sure its not the driver mod he needs...

my sister was at the track with her freind on saturday and he let her take it down the 1/4 she had a 2.2 60ft and still managed a 14.2 at 99mph in his 06 monte SS and she has absolutly no drag racing experience hell she drives a 98 mercury sable and she did that on her first pass.
the guy that ownes the car says that he can keap up with stock ls1 autos from a dig.

irnbru83; The most shocking part of the whole story is that a "middle aged woman" is driving a domestic in the first place!! Around here, women of any age wouldn't be caught dead driving anything other then a Lexus sedan or a sucky Camry. KUDOS to her, she is one cool old broad!
Not that the new Holden/Opel based GMs coming out soon are anything to be disappointed about, but it's a shame that the current Monte SS LS4 body style is not RWD (without adding weight).

What does your car run stock?
An LT1 is very quick off the line.

Don't LT1's run 14's stock? My first time to the track with my monte i went a 13.8 on my third run. I bet That's better than 90 % of lt1's.

Funny thing is, Ive did alot of research on here, from hotrod mag, to car and driver, to this place ...http://www.topspeed.com/cars/chevrol...s-ar11534.html
Top Speed usually get really good times. If 14.2 is the best they got, you got your hands full with an LT1. And thats just a stock A4
(edit)
The 0-60 times for those Monte's are 6 seconds
The 0-60 times for LT1's are 5.4-5.6. FWD Vs RWD basically.
If you dont catch an LT1 to 60, its only going to get worse from there.
But thats all benchracing crap. Anything can happen.

Any decent driver can get a sub 6 sec 0-60 time out of a new MCSS. Even chevys advertises 5.6 seconds to 60mph. I'm not saying a new MCSS would beat every LT-1 camaro. I was just saying that a MCSS would have a closer race with an LT-1 rather then a LS1 car.
