You know, I'm not a cop hater.

As a matter of fact I try to maintain a very broad view of the situation. Meaning, I see what I see. But I try to understand what someone else has just seen(walking in on a situation or what not).

But I have been pulled over a LOT. And very, very rarely does anyone ever give me a reason.

I drove a 79 Z28, big street radials in back, 3 inch cowl up front. Its a street/strip car. And yes, it CAN be loud. But it isn't unless I'm at high throttles over 4k RPM. Meaning, inside the car(which lacks anything resembling sound insulation) I can talk in a normal voice.

The last time I was pulled over I was sitting at a stop light idling. It was not quite dark, but not quite light out. The sun was still about a quarter visible over he mountain(sitting in a valley). At about the time a cop car comes through the intersection going the opposite way I'm turning, I click my lights to the "on" position. It helps other people see me, right? And I love my baby. I don't want any unneccisary dents or dings.

Not more then a second after my lights come on the cop takes a hard right(tires squeeling and everything). I'm expecting to see lights come on. Instead he slides through a gravel yard back into the road and almost into me. A little chapped that he just took 4 lanes(1 was a turning lane) of traffic, slid through a businesses gravel parking lot, and almost hit me, I decided to scoot up. Just an foot or so. I did it with out thinking, just knowing I wanted an air cushon between him and me.

The light turns green at about this point. I mutter something about getting arrested if I had done even a fraction of what the cop just did. I get into the intersection and the cop flips his lights into the on position. Frowning, as soon as I get through the intersection I pull over.

Few minutes go by and he walks up. In the mean time, I've left my hands on the steering wheel and the window down. I've gone through this song and dance before. Finally he comes up to my window. And says nothing. Hands still on the wheel for several seconds before I greet him with "Evenin' Officer." Again there's a several second pause where he says nothing. And it should also be noted that he's wearing his shades. "Can I help you?"

So to make a really long post not so much longer, he has me step out of the car, spit my gum on the ground, stands in myface(about 3 inches away) after taking off his shades and says nothing. I stare him back, FYI, and even "win" as it were. Which makes him all the more upset. He runs my stuff, runs my passengers stuff, does the old walk around the car. And calls in a total of /4/ cars. 8 officers.

No ticket.

Now, several of you gents mentioned being cops or working in the field. What happened to me that night? And why? Idears?

LOL

He was pretty bent when he looked away first. Especially because I started to smile.

Police injustice can be blatantly filmed and officers are exonerated... There is no REAL oversight. You all swore an oath to protect the people and uphold our constitution and you wipe your asses with it and wonder why the public's opinion on you and your peers is so low.....

This was bullying and intimidation; dress it up to justify it however you like.
The people who obey the law and stay out of trouble are the ones that have a good opinion about the police. The bad opinions come from punks like the one who started this thread. Theres a reason some people are against the police, its usually because they are trying to get away with something and aren't succeeding. The police need to harrass annoying punk kids who have their music turned up too loud. I agree with it. You need to step back and decide if your going to be with them or against them. Being against them will gain you nothing, and will not make you a badass. Taking sides with criminals is a dumb idea. Your view will change when you grow up someday and your house gets broken into and family threatened, then the cops catch the guy and lock him up. The kid was bringing attention to himself with his radio, then cries when he gets attention. I don't understand.

I disagree, perception is different for everyone. I'm married and have two children. I'm certainly no young punk kid. However, I like to crank up the music too. Why, because I enjoy the feel of that pulse pounding bass just like some listening to the sound of open headers in a car. It's entertainment, I enjoy it. A guy driving down the street in his suburban with 24" spinners is a disturbance too. Yet, he doesn't get pulled over? That's also attention to his car, oh, because it doesn't make any noise. See where this is going.....?

Fact is, most officers like to intimidate the young drivers because most are nervous. I guess it makes the officers ego soar. All about being in power. I truely was different at 18 than I am now at 34. I'm in no way ever disrespectful either. I say yes sir or mam, etc. But many officers are officers because it strokes their ego, not because they love it for what it is. It's all about power.

Do I think the boy was out of line with his loud music. Perhaps pulling into the bank, yes, in general no. If there's a sound ordance, absolutely. The officer could of handled it differently, if the boy has to ask him his name, than the officer did not indicate who he was, period. Isn't that a violation? Last I was told, an officer flashing a badge has to say who he is or at least he's the police. Undercover or not. I've seen tons of badges, doesn't mean it's a cop. Well, we are far fetching this topic, rofl.

edit: Nope wasn't you going 190mph. It was allngn_c5, the cop that does 190mph, rofl.

Aside from my afore mentioned story of getting pulled over, I've been pulled over in the same Z28 almost half a dozen times where the cop has said something to the effect of "you would have sped/raced if I wasn't there."

Never ever gotten a ticket from any of the incidences. Even when my reply was "I was also gonna see how hard you were gonna push that crown vic, but I didn't. Gonna gimme a ticket for that, too?"

Just because you obey the law doesn't mean you wont get harrassed.
