Ok first off there is no "turbo lag" when drag racing unless you shift extremely slow and let the rpm's drop below 4k, with a 7k redline thats pretty slow!
Also the stock Evo's dont have an anti-lag or launch control in the US. What the newer ones do have is a built in rpm limiter that doesnt allow you do rev higher then 5500rpm's while stationary. Its meant to deter people from doing high rpm clutch drops and protect the tranny. It doesnt build boost and actually hurts your launch. There is a simple way to remove it but most people dont know how. Thats way so many people have a hard time launching these cars.
You can get a 2-step launch control with a simple flash or tune that sets your launch at a certain rpm, usually 5800-6200rpm's and builds 10-14psi of boost. This really helps the launch, I average 1.69-1.75 60's on crappy street tires.

Well, I don;t think that anyone can really say the "right" way to launch these things. Although they are great for, and used for launches, it really is a rally car and opinoins on how to launch it vary alot. I have seen people launch like its a 2wd and fry the crap out of the clutch fast. I'd be willing to bet that if we posted a question on the right way to launch an AWB turbo manual, you 'd get an assload of different answers.
As turbo lag goes, you always loose a healthy amount of power on that stock turbo (even with the twin scroll turbo) even with the slightest drop in RPMS. Remember the turbo spins way faster than the 5-8k rpms that the engine rides.

As for the AWD system and speed. Well WHP is WHP no matter what drive train it comes from. No doubt 2800 > 3100 in racing.
13.4 is around where a stock EVO should be. So at best you should have been tied. You had 3 cars on him which means he has a 14 second EVO. Which means you beat a bad driver. A win is a win, just don't expect to beat the next EVO you run. He might know how to drive.

the USDM EVO doesn't have an antilag or studderbox but what it does have is a stationary rev limiter. as long as the VSS measures 0 its active, the factory set the limit to 5500 RPM on the stock 05+ EVO's in order to prevent drivetrain damage from newbz launching their cars. the 04 and older model EVO doesn't have that stationary rev limiter built in but it can be added very easily with a free program called ECUFlash.
also when my 04 EVO was bone stock and I had no clue how launch it the best time I got was 13.6 with a 2.1 60' shifting slow as crap but then again I'm not the best driver.

i have a evo 9, stock i ran a 13.2 @ englishtown. with my turboback (catless) i ran a 12.8. the car has a built in launch control which is set at 5k. honestly the evo is a idiot proof race car. i agree that at the track u will see quite a few evos and stis going high 13's-14's but honestly thats because they dont launch right. these kids are popping the clutch or launching at 2k cause there afraid theyll break something (i dont blame them cause these awd cars aint cheap 2 fix when sh*t breaks)if u dont launch these cars your killing the quarter since our trap speeds are not as high as u muscle guys. but neways im getting rid of my evo to get a C5 Z06 soon, i miss good old fashion rwd.

This makes me giggle stock turbo evos have almost no lag, lol sounds like some people have never ever driven a FI car befor lol
On a side note, IF YOU CANT launch or SHIFT a EVO correctly its going to be a slow car..Theres alot of people that bog there launchs, and suck at driving who own them.

77k on a stock evo drivetrain? i dunno i think a clutch was installed a couple of times or transfer case. i dont care what any evo owner says if u actually drag race and launch your car u will be eventually going through a tranfer case and clutch. unless your using a exedy triple plate or tilton for 3000$ which eventually would still go or a john sheppard built tranny. oh and i own evo, the turbo kicks in around 2700 rpm in my car which is pretty much stock.
