Default Walked an Evo Vlll w/the s-10 283

Sooo i just saw the cowboys lose at my couzins house...and on the way home i found something to take my frustration out on lol!!! anyway i ran into him in city lights....but when i got in front of him I started driving hard, aaaand he kept up...so i led him out to a good road. With a long stretch in front of us ...we stop in the middle of the road...(its 1:35ish) so its dead. So i get a nice lil burnout goin' and get set up....then this guy is like alright on the 3rd honk. He starts bouncing off the rev limiter and im stalling at about 3600 out of pure horror from this awd lol...anyway we launch and he of course puts about 1to 1.5 cars on me...i gripped good but he just flew out of the hole. As i let 1st gear rip i started making up ground quick,...by the time i shifted @ 7100 i had made up 1 car, so i threw 2nd and continued to pullon him...by the time i shifted into 3rd i just about had pulled the whole truck on him...after slamming 3rd in i had really began to walk away from him...i opened up the gap by another 2 links or so...4th gear was nice as well... i let it wind a bit to 5,900 after pullin again on him....then i shut it down...in the end i had him by 3 cars ez

this extra timing definitely feels good, much better than ive felt it so far.

Good racing! Have you ever ran at the track to see what kind of times you pull?

yup 13.50's were my best...but that was without the extra timing ...that it seems to love. I'd say 13.30-13.49 isnt out of the picture...its a rpm motor that feels strong with the 4spd & 3:42's.

Sorry man. A 13.4 isnt gonna pass and pull an Evo by 3 after getting out launched by 1.5 lengths. Nice win but he either couldnt drive or just gave up after the launch.

I agree. 13.4 isn't isn't beating an EVO that just out launched you by 1.5 cars. Not unless he went from 1st to 4th.

my truck pulled that stock evo...wut do u want me to say???..., my friend pablo has 1 with hks exhuast and ngk's and he knocks off 13.50's as well...stock it was 13.90's

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endid=80108424

but awd cars lose more power to the wheels...hence they make the time off the line and struggle a lil bit to pull on the top end...plus my truck weighs about 2800lbs...evos hav like a 3100 curb weight. Honestly with a good driver i think the best his car could manage would be 13.7... his driving may of had been a factor... perhaps i should drive his car

Where do you live, high Altitude? 13.9 for a stock EVO is far from the average.

As for the AWD system and speed. Well WHP is WHP no matter what drive train it comes from. No doubt 2800 > 3100 in racing.

13.4 is around where a stock EVO should be. So at best you should have been tied. You had 3 cars on him which means he has a 14 second EVO. Which means you beat a bad driver. A win is a win, just don't expect to beat the next EVO you run. He might know how to drive.

have you guys ever driven an evo? well i have and let me tell you they are not easy cars to drive to their full potential in stock form their turbo lag is a joke

i believe if this guy is running a mid 13 he would be able to take the average evo driver by a good margin

Turbo lag? Clearly from the story this EVO drive was using his anti-lag ("He starts bouncing off the rev limiter") and from the launch would be sitting at around 10psi. From there he should be in full boost thru every gear.

While I'll agree that driving a AWD turbo car isn't the easiest, it's far from hard. The EVO has it easy compared to the WRX/STi cause it comes from the factory with anti-lag (sounds like he's bouncing of the rev-limiter but what is happening is the ECU pulling fuel or timing at around 5500rpm to bult boost). The hardest part is done with the launch. After that it's just finding your shifting points. For my WRX it's around 6500 to 6800 rpm but running 1st to redline.

Yeah, I have to agree with this and WRX-E. Not saying you didn't beat him **** happens on the street and a kill is a kill. From a dig w/him getting 1.5 cars on the launch = he either gave up, or missed a shift.

I always thought that anti-lag was a system that dumped fuel into the cylinder during the end of the exhaust phase to keep the turbine "spun up"?? (Which results in the loud "bang-bang" backfire sound and flames out the tailpipe.) Is the stock Mitsu system just a different way of doing the same thing?

nah bro...low altitude...the RGV deep south texas. But stock sti's round here run 13.4-13.5's...and evo's high 13.'s ....lol according to car and driver these numbers are right on.

however, i agree this guy was probably a bad driver...given our e.t. status... i shouldn've been able to chase him down that hard.

Not sure on how the stock EVO system works but you are correct for most other systems that run anti lag. My DSMlink will allow me to retard timming and well as add fuel at the same time.

It is a possibilty if the stock EVO system just pulls timming back a bit, but I don't think it would pull fuel.

I don't think it pulls timing. They have a studderbox type launch control like you would get with custom burned chip for a DSM though.

People need to stop acting like a given time is inevitable for a given car. Once people start actually going to different tracks at different altitudes with different prep and DAs they understand that times vary a LOT. Try running a low 13 in a stock Evo at Bandimere.

I raced a TBE only Evo IX (I know because I helped install it) at Firebird (PHX and about 1700 ft above sea level) and he ran a 13.9. Newbie driver, but there it is. He had a 1.9 60 and trapped 102.

Nice kill OP, sounds like your tune is doing well. I would love to see some times.

Ugg thats what I meant, studderbox not anti-lag. But in any case I'm 90% sure thats what the OP heard when he thought the EVO was bouncing off the rev-limiter.

I saw a couple Evos at the track and they were running high 13s/low 14s. I saw a Mach 1 run a best of 14 flat as well. Not everyone can push their cars
