I agree, but that's not necessarily true. The '00 Cobra R was a 12.80 car
I believe...not really a fair comparison though. Mach 1's (M5's) are pretty
damned close to LS1's. Not bad for a small cube motor really.

 

That's kinda like a GT beating an LS1... not supposed to happen

 

Man, what a thread. Sorry guys, but Machs are no joke! They run very well and VERY close if not dead even with LS1's stock for stock.

Was the '00 R Ford assembly line built or was it a tuner tweaked car like the SLP F-bodies? Just curious because I don't remember and couldn't find the info.

 

I honestly don't know. Outside of '03 Cobras, I don't know much about
Mustangs since I'm a GM guy. I believe the '00R was a Ford production
vehicle.

The Cobra "R" is just plain bad ***...If I remember right though (and Pony or elevens let me know if I'm wrong here) they had no rear seat, radio, etc...It was basically a true factory race car, and a true one is pretty rare. I love the hood!!!!

As for LS1 vs Mach1 all the tests of the cars when new and unmodified showed the LS1's to be .2-.3 quicker, I know magazines aren't the best, but trends are trends. If the mag test driver is slow in one car he will be slow in the other and the relative difference will be the same.

I've noticed that when one runs out of intelligent things to say they start calling people names. If you need to see a moron so you can recognise him next time, look in the mirror.

 

i know my buddy with a M5 04 mach that was all stock besides flowmaster exhaust ran a 14.0 @ 99 mph i belive. it was his first time at the track. and my other buddy with an 03 mach 1 thats an auto with flowmaster, and prochamber and an intake or maybe just a k&n filter ran 13.9 at san antonio raceway...

As for the magazine races...save it for the RICERS.......your comment would be true, if the cars were tested by the same guy, on the same day, on teh same track..otherwise, they have no bearing.

I have been told S.A istn' the best...however, that is not the first time I have heard of a first time driver in a mach running 14s. I don't think people realize how hard it is to peg these cars correctly.

Some LS owners in here understand....I don't see why others can't.

 

i agree pony!! thats what people have been saying. its pretty difficult to launch those machs.. but i do like them. me being the original poster of this thread, was just wanting to know if that was b.s. that 05 gt put 4 car lengths on an ls1.. cuz i know the new 05 will probably not get away from the mach 1's from what i heard.

 

First, I make no claim to Mustang expertise, I'm just stating the facts as I understand them based on hard numbers. Please post the unbiased numbers you are privvy to that show unmodified Mach 1's running as fast as unmodified '01-'02 LS1 F bodies. I have never seen such numbers, so educate me and remove my ignorance. Now don't go hunting and find the fastest Mach against the slowest LS1 car, gather a preponerance of the cars and average the numbers. If you are honest you will see that the F-bodies were faster and quicker, if not continue to call people names and tell us how we look stupid for believing the evidence instead of your assurance. Having been racing since 1969 and going to the dragstrip since 1965, I tend to believe what I see over what I hear. I know believing my own eyes makes me a moron, how silly of me.

 

That is correct. Given all the BS thrown about mods, and exhaggeration (not to mention driver ability - everyone is John Force, right?)......It is possible, but highly unlikely.

And the mach is quicker than the S197 GTs. (generally of course).

The fact that you rely on magazine's shows me just how much you know about the real life of this subject. YOu dont' know me, so I will thank you for not assuming that I am a biast person. You racing for 40 years has NOTHIGN to do with the topic at hand.......because racing for decades doesn't mean you know anything about the cars discussed. Now, like I said..you are obviously having difficulty understanding the term driver's race.......since you have been around for 40 yrs, you should know that alot of things affect ETs..therefore, I always speak in general........like I said...since you are blind to my typing.....BOTH CARS are low to mid 13s. If you would venture out, into the mustang world..(namely those familiar with machs) you would understand this.
