somthing about that just doesn't seem right.

I'd have to assume the GTO was only allowed to go half-throttle

Let the excuses start .

There are more floating around streetfire, of more gto's getting there asses handed to them by bolt on 350z's. Of course, there are some that are the other way around as well.

I been watching these 350z threads for a while, and I can't keep quiet anymore.

What the hell am I missing? I know somone with a low boost, otherwise bone-stock, procharged 350z, and while it is pretty stout for an import, I was still able to edge it out on the freeway, especially once I got past 120mph. It supposedly has over 350rwhp, but I really don't know. I know GTOs are a lot heavier than a corvette, but a 350rwhp ls2 should be able to handle a stock or bolt-on z with around 100 less horses no matter how bad the driver. Especially considering the midrange torque of a 372cid v8.

Forgive my street racing ignorance, but what is it that can be done to those cars that makes them a match for lsx powered vehicles? My knowledge is basically limited to GM engines/drivetrains.

Becuase you have a larger motor, doesnt mean you will make more torque. 350z's make 300hp and 278ftlb. You also need to consider the weight difference between the two. I think its about a 5-600lb difference, which is roughly a half a sec.

GTO's only trap about 108 through the 1/4 and a 350z does 101-103 with a real good driver! When modding, different cars respond differently to mods. Some make more power than others. I also think the 350z, has better gearing and aerodynamics as speeds increase. Thats why in the vid, you will see the 350 start to pull up top.

Let me give you an example of the difference between a turbo kit for an Ls1 vs a 350z turbo kit at basically the same psi.

http://www.my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=248299

This was done on 13psi of boost

https://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-induction/657749-new-tc-t-76-tuned.html

and this was on 12psi on

350z made 633.5rwhp and 614ftlb

ls1 made 620rwhp and xxxxftlb

A procharged and turbocharged 350z are two totally different monsters. A turbo 350z at 8psi, will make between 400-450rwhp(depending on what turbo kit) and a procharged 350z, will make about 350rwhp as you mentioned. There is a person that made 505rwhp at 13psi, on a completely stock motor.

I thought that was at the crank, and actual rwhp was around 350ish, much like the ls6.

So basically, the engine design lends itself to being more responsive to boost?

Also, what is the rear end gearing ratio?

Is aero one of the biggest reason why stockish 350z's can compete with similar f-bods? This would explain why I have never had any problems, since their aero/weight advantage would not only dissapear, but would actaully become a disadvantage against a y-body.

I've spanked the hell out of every stock 350z i've come across. Luckily no turbo, 450rwhp ones lurking around my neck of the woods that I know of.

I would say yes. Most DOHC setups tend to respond better to turbocharging.

Mine is 3.3

Stock, 350z's are no match for ls1's. But a bolt on 350z(exhaust, headers, intake and spacer) should be a good run, for a stock ls1, from the vids I have seen.

Yep. The ls2 heads are basically identical to ls6 heads, even same casting number (243)

The ls2 is 6.0 L, 372? CID, wheras the ls6 is only a 5.7 L, 350 CID. However the ls2 i believe has a slightly tamer camshaft profile. Also in c5 z06's, the ls6 was mated to an m12 transmission and 3.42 gears. An m12 with 3.42 gears is a lot like an m6 transmission with 3.90 gears.

Thanks.

Unrelated, I never noticed the Enzo in your sig description before. Is that new or have I just overlooked it?

Exactly, that is NOT happening, no way a bolt-on 350Z is going to come close to an LS2 GTO, period.

LMMFAO! The GTO whooped the crap out of the 350 from a dig, and it was pretty far ahead. What gear was the GTO going from in the roll race? 4th or 5th? At what, a 30 mph roll?? Please.

It also helps when the guy driving the GTO doesn't short shift at 4K.

Making a car lose by driving it in such a way makes for a stupid video.
