What imports beat you?
Aright here is the story, my bro is in the market for a car and he likes the light weight imports and those kinds of cars. I know you guy's like the domestics and all but I am asking you to look past that and tell me what kind of imports beat you and the ones that you kind of admire performance wise. He is looking for a car light that had a lot horsepower. He has no more that 10,000 and that includes the car and the giant wing. No, I am just kidding he is not into “riceing” cars out and will most likely leave the appearance stock for a sleeper look so post up all the little imports you admire and take to mod’s well, and don’t tell me there is nothing good but vett's and camaro’s.

I like all the real sporty looking imports, supras, G35's, 350Z, S2000.
I hate the family car turned ricer race car crap ie.. civics, accords, camry etc...
I havent been beat by an import yet though.

For under $10,000, there isn't a fast import except maybe a DSM(Mitsu Eclipse). Maybe SRT-4 Neons are going for that, but I'm not sure. DSM's are the biggest pieces of crap ever though, it might be fast, but **** will be constantly breaking on it.
A 300ZX TT is another nice car, but parts are expensive and they can be trouble prone. Seems like every ad I read and the car has over 100,000 miles, it always says "new engine, or new turbos"
RX-7's are great but the rotary engine is the biggest pile ever made. He could drop an LS1 into though.
Supras. WRX, and Evos are all awesome machines, but way more than $10,000.

The only few cars i recommend for 10k that in my eyes in the import world that are worth it are the 300ZX twin turbo, 3000 GT VR-4 (twin turbo) or a TT RX-7...but if i were to get a import it would be a Supra and thats the only one i would ever own...thats just My opinion tho

WOW, I thought these little imports were cheap and could be modded for real cheap. I guess I was wroung, they really make my 8 grand 1999 z28 shine. I looked through e-bay and these cars are all beat and are old poor condition. Well looks like I will keep telling him to not play with the imports tell he can dish out the big bucks. The only car worth messing with looks to be the Mitsu Eclipse. 2500 pounds and he could get a newer body with a blown engine cheap and rebuild the engine with forged components and larger turbo.

If he wants to mod it pick up a 93-96 Honda prelude V-tech not the Si the V-tech. it is about the quickest with the H22a and about 200 crank NA hp and 156FT-lbs of tq They are hard to find though but about the only thing under 10K you can get that is quick and wont break every day. I had 1 before i got my formula it isnt nearly as fast off the line but it had some speed up top did about 115mph in fourth hit 5th took it to 130 and shut down at 5500 still had another 2500rpm left in it. you could probably pick one up for about 4k maybe less and put the rest into good modding and net 300hp easily.

I would stay away from Mitsus and Chrysler products. A Supra is an excellent choice but on the expensive side unless he wants to step up to the model before the final gen. Not as attractive but can be had with little money and made to perform very fast. I've found some S2000 near $12K. Not a bad car either. My pick would be the 300ZX (non-turbo), work the engine and trans. Stillen and some other tuners speak highly of the strength of these motors when built properly.
Or....1991 Used Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo
144,000 Mileage
$10,900 Price

1991 NISSAN 300ZX, 144K mi, TWIN TURBO, NEW TIMING BELT, JDM MOTOR 30000, ASHSPEC ECU, JWT POP CHARGER, SS EX HKS, BOVHKS, NEW CLUTCH, 19IN RIMS, 6.5 ...
Check auto trader and get ready to do some travelling. I wouldn't max my budget out on the purchase of the car alone. Civics, Integras and other small light cars would make great choices. The 1999 Preludes are around $10K and handle great.

as said above, i like the usual like supras, evos, 350s and G35s. but around my town i've seen some respectable 240sx's and GST/GSX eclipses that do low-13 to high-12 in the quarter. but i'm not sure exactly how much was thrown in the cars to make 'em do that. as for my losses... i have a nearly factory car so i get whipped by just about anything, lol. anyway, i don't race the srt4's anymore, lol. my beatings have been too brutal. so i would say i have respect for them. that third gear always rips me a new one.

I raced a bolt-on 1997 Supra TT when I was bone stock and he put 2 carlengths on me... they're fast cars. I've never had a problem beating 300ZX TTs or VR4s... but they are fast cars, just not LS1 fast stock for stock.

I got beat once on the highway by a talon running 19lbs and a few other small supporting mods. I was running the engine that came in my car which was pretty poorly set up, but nevertheless it was a good race, he pulled me like 1-2 cars from 50-115 or so. Crazy story, I'm bs'ing in the locker room after a mens league game a few months later and the guy next to me was the one I raced. Turns out he spun a bearing soon after the race and parted the car out since it was fairly beat.

Here is an example of an improperly built and boosted DSM and morons for tuners.

Get a DSM and properly build it and you will walk all over most cars that don't expect it. That's half the joy. Hell, if you find one bone stock in good condition (kinda hard now due to age, mileage and moron negligent owners), they have VERY good potential. Need to find that one DSM that has been driven by a Grandma for the past 10yrs. Those are the gems and that's how I found mine years ago. No other car in that price bracket will touch an AWD DSM when it comes to "moddability," period.
