WOW... There is so much misinformation floating around here its unreal.
1. Preston Smiths 305 was a big bore, small stroke engine based off a 350 block. A destroked 350 if you will. Definately NOT a production based 305 like some claim. So don't call it a 305 in reference to the small bore engines built by Chevy.
2. Whoever said LS1 blocks split in half around 500HP is a complete moron. Look around idiot!
3. Evan Smith, you know, the guy from MM&FF who gets rediculous ETs out of late model Fords? He used to work for GMHTP, and got a G92 LB9 5 speed 305 to run high 14s, absolutely untouched. A few very minor mods netted him mid 14s. This is on par with what he achieved with stock (non GT40) 5.0Ls
4. We already established that 305 302 eaters post on the LT1 kill was complete BS. It was likely a 6 cylinder car, or an 8 cylinder car running on 6 cylinders.
Finally to anyone that argues the point of the 305 being on par with a 302... Take a look a Fun Ford event anywhere around the Mid-Atlantic area. You'll find a home-built on a budget, 306" 101mm turbo Ford Mustang running in the high 7s, on a 10.5 tire on a stock style suspension. Can ANY 305 do that?

How does a home built 302 turbo decide the worthiness of a 305 ci stock block?
Of course the 302 is a better performance motor, just look at the specs. Two motors built for two different purposes. An already forged internal motor vs a smogger economy v8?
No one here said they were fans of a 305, let alone does anyone here plan on building one up. As I said, bolt ons help when on a budget, but when it comes to "building" a motor, a 350 is the idiot proof motor.

Everyone here knows what the deal is with these engines; I think its just better off unsaid.

Also, isn't it amazing, in general, how some people will honestly accept a Mitsubishi 4g63 engine, an engine less than half the size of the LG4/L69/LB9 (305) engine family, as an engine capable of such fascinating ability, at the very same time, shy away from a boosted engine more than double it's cubic inch displacement (the 305)? Hmm...

"Oh man, I have no idea lol. 2 years, probably 70 dyno pulls (about 30 on spray). For about a year and a half I went through at least 2 bottles per weekend."
from personal experince ive seen ford 302's spilt down the lifter valley around 400rwhp ,this doesnt mean they cant handle more, but comparing an engine thats years ahead like the lsx to an old 80's small block is a bit stupid
i have nothing against ford 302's ive drove one for a while it makes an excellent platform and the amount of aftermarket support for that year nearly triples anything GM has
