Default 01 SS vs 01-02 Vette

this is a race story but also a question. i was on my way to work with my buddy, right when i jump on I5 South this red vette turns in behind me, this got me kinda pumped seeing i havent raced in about 6 months due to seattles lovely weather. like i always do on my way to work i moved in the HOV lane crusing at like 70-75 and the vette still following (closely).. once i was passing the traffic i punced it to let vette know i was interested in playing.. he gets up next to me and gives me a thumbs up, and continues on his way.. i see him in the hov lane and i get right to pass the slow dumbass drivers in seattle, i hit a nice opening and outa no where i see the vette in my side mirror coming fast and right when he gets to about my door i threw it in 3rd (70-75 cant remember how fast) and it pretty much stayed at my door til like close to the end of fourth, was still sticking and slowly slowly i was pulling away, once i hit 5th i couldnt see him in my periphrial (sp?) and i let out cause of a turn.. i was prob going about 115-120 when i let off.. the race only lasted a couple seconds.. and we exchanged thumbs up, that guy was pretty pumped he had a huge smile on his face he even gave me the "hang loose" sign like we were in hawaii or something ..
1 comment before my question.. i WAS NOT winding the crap out of my motor, i was prob shifting at like 6-6100 rpms and my redlines at like 6300-6400. now, with my mods (232/234 .595/.598, 243s, 90/90, exhaust) should he have stayed at my door for that long? i honestly think my cars running extremely poor, the car is way outa tune right now, its got like 12.1 (avg) AF ratio (super rich), wont even really idle until it gets warm . i havent gotten it tuned after the heads/intake
what do u think?

old numbers tuned made 395 rwhp 366 ftlbs on a MD

Couple contributing factors I've picked out.

1st - You weren't winding the crap out of your motor
2nd - Your not tuned properly for your current set up
3rd - He had the momentum when you hit it
4th - Are you 100% sure he was bone stock?

Any or either way, nice run!

Agree with Nate on this one, you never know what the other guy did to his car. But it did prove 1 point, you beat him. So, it doesnt really matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winnings winning!!! REMEMBER?

Thanx, You should get that bad boy tuned so you can take full advantage of your setup. What kinda numbers do you expect to put down when you get it all dialed in?

well... heres the thing. i bought a NX direct port so im gonna wait out on the tune until like may when i can afford everything.. so, many-a mods are going to be coming before the tune.
id really, really be happy with a 20+rwhp gain over the 395 i made with the cam.
and on the spray... i have no idea

I hear ya, I wanna retune my car but I have a few things on my "to mod" list that I need before the car will be ready. And I would love to be able to run a small shot of nitrous even if it is just to help spool the turbo but I'm too scurd lol. Good luck with your plans bro, car looks hot.

i couldnt really explain that, either my car is really really outa tune/somethings wrong, or that dyno operator fucked up for what ever reason.. theres no way i magically lost 50rwhp from switching to better flowing heads/intake unless something is seriously wrong with my car, and from what i can tell its running just as strong as it did when it put the 395 to the ground. the only way to tell is when i bring it down to get tuned by the same guy/dyno and we'll really see how my car improved.

also having 12.1 AFR kinda gave me an idea how my car was doing

Nice kill. You still killed him even though like someone else said "he had the momentum" I think you did good. BTW 12.1 AFR is not that bad for a NA car at WOT, I wound definitely get that car tuned as soon as possible though, even if the tuner uses the injector flow rates method to get the L-trims in line. Just my $.02

its getting tuned HOPEFULLY by april, ive got some more parts to gather

only reason i bring up AFR is b/c when it was tuned WOT was 12.8, the richest it went was 12.3 at about 6300rpms. NOW the leanest it goes is 12.5, and the richest point @ WOT was 11.7
