S2000

Granted we're not on the straightest of roads but still, you'd think he would be able to pull on me and get away. It isn't the first time I've chased him down either. Maybe the lack of a straightaway makes it difficult for him but I just don't see them pulling on an LS1.
Well I know my 3.4L isn't anything special, but I can drive the **** out of it on the country roads back here if that has anything to do with it. So with that being my only impression of an S2K I've never been impressed. Guess they're quicker going straight than I believed.

A well driven S2000 can get into the high 13's trapping from 98-101. Not too bad for a car designed to fly around road courses. Check this. Back when they first came out the Jap's were able to extract 240 hp out of the S2000's n/a 2.0 liter engine. How do you think I feel when my car has over twice as much displacement (4.6 L '02 Mustang GT) and only has 20 more horses(260)

yupp... so many people just fail to realize that big torque down low can make the upper HP of a competitor useless due to the race being already over by the time they could use that HP....

That is a good point, but it too can be overcome. The S2000 has basically zero power/torque below 6,000rpm, which is not a great thing. But it also has ridiculous gearing (4.44?). That means that when you take off in first gear, by the time you have the clutch out and are actually moving, you're at 4,000-5,000rpm. So in normal everyday driving, not too bad as long as you're in the right gear. And in dragracing, the reason you see so many S2000s running mid 14s and higher at the track is because of the way you have to launch an S2000 to get the best off the line performance; hold revs at 6,500-7,500rpm (depends on tires/track), sidestep clutch. It does spin quite a bit, but the lack of torque means that you are still going to be having good forward motion (not lighting up the tires). By the time the spinning stops, it is time to shift into 2nd, and after that just redline every gear
