While Evan Smith is a great driver, he's far from one of the top drag
racers in the country.

why someone would take a 03 Cobra to the track and not a GT500.
Because he would die from the embarassment of that overpriced fat pig with 500 h.p. running mid 13's!

Well of course he is not John Force, but him and Ranger are two known names. They both took a C5 Z06 into the 11's stock.

In capable hands, stock on good tires the GT500 is capable of going deep into the 11s.
1. That car you're referencing went 13.1s bone stock with drag radials at Cecil - I watched it.

2. That 9 second run had WAAAAYYY more than those few things you listed - full exhaust, several hundred lbs of weight reduction, full suspension, ported blower, and extensive tuning just to name a few.

3. A completely stock GT500 running anywhere near 11s...

I agree with your post. However, Evan Smith did crack off a 12.2. That's
real close to an 11.99. Granted, he's a ringer...but it happened.

You are right, they were more concerned about selling a good V-8 to people as a opposed to a bunch of V-6 cars to a bunch of posers.

Yeah I was going to say people are hyped up about him going 12's in a stock F-body. The guy drives well that is for sure...
But...
I did that in 2001 at Bremerton Raway in a bone stock 01 Z28 on RS-A.
12.92 @110.02 mph.

I should have kep that car it always ran so damn good, but I went through a divorce so I got rid of it to get the ex's name off it.

He is not the worlds best driver but alot better than the average driver. Someone made a point about the GT500 being easy to launch. IMHO if it was you would see most of the magazines times within a few tenths of what Evan Smith could do and even average drivers would be close. But a 13.1 out of a stock one tells me otherwise.

You can't blame a poor ET on the car. It's driver error. I've personally
seen a '04 Z06 run 14's. Same situation.

Well if someone was trying to tell me how easy they were to launch then any idiot could figure it out

Plus Motor Trend may not be the best drivers but they are better than the "average" driver.

Bullshit they are. Motortrend is a joke. You understand that they
don't even go to the track to get the ET's they print right?

I'm starting to believe that. I need to edit the rules. You must
first run a minimum of an 11.99 in order to post here. Everyone
else doesn't seem to have an understanding of what it's all about.

Hey germeezy...post pics of your low 11 second C5. You sure don't sound
like a guy that understands racing. I hope that I'm mistaken.

Your right I actually have a low 14 second C5, Maybe I am not the worlds best driver but I, and I say it again. I did not think the GT500 was as easy to launch as some are claiming it is. My SOTP feel was that my C5 feels alot faster. I have driven 2 GT500's, I or anyone else posting for that matter has ever driven one down the 1320 so because of that I simply referred to #'s posted by those that had. My "OPINION" is that they are not the worlds easiest car to launch.

And Stop sign 32V is your car even capable of 11.90's? My 14 second C5 sure isn't.

I will probably never take my car to a drag strip, I would have kept my Cobra or bought a Fox body if that was my only goal. Man my "OPINION" is sure pissing some of you guys off

I guess I can stay, in the summer of 1970 I ran a 7.92 @ 188 mph in a AA/FA '36 Pontiac. They run 100 mph + faster now, but that was 37 years ago.
