The guy is either a moron or actually very sneaky.
If the car really is fairly stock, he is a moron and doesn't have clue. You will put buslengths on him, just come out on tire to make sure you don't waste your advantage spinning.
OR
He could be very sneaky and have a hidden nitrous kit. That's about what it would take to have an '85 IROC keep up with a healthy LS1 F-bod. I am assuming you know enough about cars to hear and detect a "warmed over" motor.

They might have offered a 350/M5, just not in the USA. I think I saw one (but it just might have been a secnd gen) in HRM and read under the picture that the reason GM didn't offer the combo in the US was because of emissions laws. I don't know what it would have to do with anything, but that's what i read. Canada could order them, and I don't mean as a dealer option, I mean just right off the line. So, there might be a few out there.
I'm sure this guy doesn't have one of them even if there's a 350 in it. I almost bought a 350/M5 once. It was a Camaro 350 of about the same year as the car, the guy who dropped it in there said.

FWIW, about 10 years ago, I beat a '86 IROC with my parents '96 blazer (6cyl).
Also, my friend used to have a '91 Z28 with some bolt-ons, and I would walk off from him pretty bad in my '98 Mustang GT (with 3:73's & Flowmasters)

i would think this wouldnt even be a question. your top end is way way better than his. like someone said, MAYBE off the line, but by the 1-2 shift, he's done. if not, you stilll look and sound better!

yea I wouldnt worry about it unless he has some stuff, I mean IF he has slicks theres a chance he actually has something. and If he can drive and pul a mid 1.5 60 ft and your pullin close to a 2.0 then thats .5 seconds right there, from a roll you will walk him but if his car is set up for the track id be careful b/c you never know

I love how people hate on third gens. He could have easily put a 350 shortblock under the 305 heads and FI. I had a 91Z with a 350 auto that ran a sorry 8.90 in the 1/8. Swapped in a 5speed, hooker long tubes, true duals ,fuel pressure regualtor, and a chip and cut it down to a 8.20 on motor and 7.60 with a 100 dry shot. Car was a stripper with manual everything, no AC and weighed about 3300 with me in it. Was it fast? not really. did it suprise people? all the damn time I like my 01 T/A i have now better but thats only because the 91 is in the garage being restored

To put this into presepective, my friend as a "top-of-the-line" 85 IROC and I have a 2000 3.8L. He has exhaust and 3.42s. Lets just say that my car can beat his car-I can pull him pretty good. So imagine another 100 horsepower against that IROC; I see ownage coming, big time. Even with the slicks and 4.11s, you'll wax his ***. It will have NO top end, at all.
