Dude even if this guy was hiding a 100 shot of nitrous from you, you would still win. I've raced a 96 GT before and it was so bad I literally couldn't even tell if he was racing. I was on his *** at 1/4 throttle. There is no way you will lose unless he swapped that motor out for something else or has H/C/I Nitrous.

And tell me why someone with a 96-98 GT would only change out one CAM. and not both the CAMS.

Two cams and those things still making bad power? damn. I didn't actually know that. lol.

Unless you feel like you're gaining a lot of personal pride from that, I'm not seeing the hustle. They arent betting money. They both run at the track, likely for fun, either way. Now they happen to have an interesting race.

But I agree, I'd much rather talk down my own car and bend the truth to beat other people surprisingly.

My 10 bolt lasted through over 500 track passes, and 200+ street races with DRs and Hoosier slicks. Ofcourse I'm an auto though.

First off the dumbass that had the nerve to say that is a ******* idiot because he himself doesn't have the car to call out the GT owner which he did. He fell into the "Well my friend's car will beat you" type person. Sounds to me like this tire place hires a bunch of idiots. To the original poster, no offense to you. Doesn't seem like you were out of place but if I were you I'd have had to make your buddy that works there look like a fool. What a loser...

Well, I didn't know the salesperson, I was just getting tires for my g/f's car. I was just standing there when all this happend. I said maybe three words to the guy, the rest was, " Uh...."

I, personally, am not the type to race anyone at all. I usually do it for personal satisfaction and curiousity on what my car can do. I don't sit there and rev past people or wait for races. I don't street race, and I used to drag race bikes, but that again was for personal gratification.

If I was laughing at the guy, or saying, "Bring it ON!" I would expect for someone to say something to me. But, when I'm just another customer and some guy says, "If you have the guts..." Then that person just aggrivated me.

Good news is, I got my drag radials last night and am all excited to break something . Maybe I'll see the guy, maybe not... but I have a friend with a camera comming and we'll see what happens and I'll keep yah posted.

Since this is my first time that I've been challenged to race in the car, I'm kinda excited. I try not to talk trash, because there is always someone faster. Hopefully this time, I'll be the quicker one.

To be continued...

I the same as you sbusby. I don't provoke and only do a spirited drive if someone is trying to beat their chest next to me. I let my car do the talking. I LOVE talking to guys like that at the track/car shows/etc. Makes for a great laugh. -Mark

Yeah I had a salesman where I work do a similar thing, to a GT500 owner. The guys just bought a bone stock GT500 and the salesman goes this would kill that Vette. And I go I have driven two of them the only thing this car would see is my tail lights. Well I had no idea who the owner of the car was and he walks up and says no way that Vette would beat this car. I just replied well its not stock and walked away. No need to make the guy feel bad about his $70k purchase!

A stock LS1 will murder a well modified one pretty badly (Some of them have been tested to run mid 15 sec. 1/4 mile times).

I'd race him without the nitrous the first time, and then with it the next time. Hope you get tires though, cause good luck launching it with a 150 shot.
They DO have potential. Just pull the drivetrain and put in an 03-04 cobra motor or a stroked windsor and they run a whole lot better!!!LOL

I love people like that Bet him like 50 or 100 spot. There is a guy here with a 91 BMW 840 or 850 whom thinks his car is the fastest thing out there. So gonna put a few bills on it and see if he wants to play then. I normally just do it for fun but when people talk mad **** then its a different game.

all I can say is, if I was in the street racing scene now going for a sleeper look, my car of choice would definetly be a 96-98gt.

I hear that. After my rear went and my trans went 2 times I got a 12 bolt and a Rossler stage 3 trans. I shouldn't be breaking anything now lol.

I had a heavily modified DTS, now that was a sleeper. If I still had that car I would do an STS rear mount turbo and nitrous!

I would actually use a V6 96-98 Mustang as a sleeper

tell me not......I even see said car on the street an roll my eyes, and I'm pretty open minded as to what can be fast. They just have a terrible rep., understandably so.

That belief is shared by both Chevy and Ford loyalists alike which is why those years make the best sleepers. It's very easy to drop a better drive train in them and maintain stock appearance as others have said.

Local guy in Houston has a 97 GT with a 96-98 cobra drive train running deep in the 11s.

One time when I was at the track I saw a '96-'98 and didn't think anything of it until I talked to him and looked under the hood. He had a '99 4v cobra engine under the hood. Stock exhaust manifolds, exhaust, AOD with a small stall, and drag radials. Ran consistant mid-high 12's that day!

Personally, I have about 0 respect for any light modded 4.6 owner outside Mach and SVT guys who act like they are the ****. I have seen so so many of those guys act like billy bad-*** and get burned by whatever.

Post pics of the slaughter.
