Default stock z28 vs slightly modded sti

ok so my buddy is back in town and he was telling me how he took it out to the track in ohio and ran the 1/4 twice. he showed me the paper to prove what he ran. he ran a 12.8 and 12.9. he has 4" turbo down exhaust no muffler, intake, and tune. so i just picked up my camaro abt 1 month ago or so and the only thing i did was cut the egr tube behind the throttle body. he says to me lets run em so we do. first race was from 20mph both in first. he honks and we're off. he stays right next to my back bumper until i hit 3rd, we got up to abt 125 and we were dead even. here is where it gets really weird the last race we have we're goin 35 so he doesnt lag. i start in second this time and he starts leaving me till i hit top of 2nd and then get into 3rd i reeled him in and we shut it off at 130 with my nose dead even with his. i dont understand how this happened. we're both experienced drivers so there was no a driver error. when i say experienced i mean we ran the porsche auto crosses and scca for abt 2 yrs. not a whole lot but enough to know how not to screw up straight runs. all in all one of the best races i have ever been in

He has a 300 flywheel hp car stock with mods that offer a good 40+ hp. I say that is why he was able to hang with you.

buddy with a Sti has almost identical mods. He put down 300awhp and 350awtq. Couple that with short gearing and really good response with the tune, and it explains how he jumped out so quick but you reeled him in. Good runs.

thanks guys. i guess wat im so abt is the fact that i always hear that stock fbodys run low 14's and mid 13's. and his was running high 12's i know it wasnt a dead stop run but good god could a roll make that much of a difference? considering the fact that i have never been to a drag strip

In roll racing et means nothing. Imagine if a 10.9@122mph car raced a car that ran 11.7@127mph from a roll the 10 sec car would get pulled even though it has run a better et the 11 sec car has more power shown by its mph. Roll racing is all about trap speeds.

WRX's and Evo's get their low et's from floating the valves and dumping the clutch. Take that away from them and they lose their advantage. Line up with him for a holeshot match and see what happens. You'll need drag radials to be close.

Would'nt any flow mod post turbo increase the chance of boost creep?

Frankly Im wondering how he gets away with a EJ25 that loud on the street.
