Ironic isn't it?

Yes, they are heavy. Yes, they can easily make 700+rwhp with
limited mods. Big power is an easy way to overcome weight.

You don’t need H/C to pull those numbers, just a little spray. IMO the GT500 is one of the biggest disappointments ever.
+1...

How can it not be a huge disapointment when its not as fast as a supercharged 2001-2004 cobra, cost way more and its heavy as a big 4doors SRT8!!???....I would never hesitate between this GT500 and an early Cobra. On the looking side, the GT500 is a killer though...

I dont think it takes that much to an LS1 to bring that sucker down.

I love when people quote mag times and say they only run 13s. The GT500 may not be that much faster than an 03/04 cobra, but they have 10 times the potencial.

There was no cobra for 2002, and only the 03/04 cobras were supercharged. Sorry, I had to.

Beat me to it...

And the GT500 IS faster than the 03/04 Terminators by about 3 tenths given equal drivers.

Pulley/tune wheels, stickies away from mid tens @ full weight. Not bad.

BTW, just a little info on the OP's car. I actually ran him at LACR and never put up a loss to him, and this was in my 95 LT1 that had a halfway decent tune, LT's, mild cam and 4.10's. (a 320rwhp setup) I think I hit 13.8 @ 101 that day (altitude is a bitch! correction factor is e.t x 0.97) and I dont think he broke 14.0...

I KNOW for a fact that his car would not take down a GT500... I really doubt the guy in the Cobra was even in it, or maybe HE was the smart one and didnt try to weave through traffic..

None-the-less though, if you want his mods, I remember him telling me that it had a "built" trans (that was a pile of ****) and a SLP lid and SLP loudmouth exhaust.

He is cocky though, Ill give him that!!

As for the GT500s, Nothing against the car, or what not... But if I were to take the same amount of cash spent on a new GT500, and put it in a LS1 car.... Cmon, it wouldnt even be a close race.

That could be said by a lot of cars. you could take a 2 valve gt and sink 40 grand into it and it would blow the doors of a gt 500. thats a horrible argument no offense.

f bodies are not the lightest cars in the world. it would take more than you think. every hundred pounds is good for 1 tenth in 1320. a gt500 hardtop weights like 3850 or so. and it makes a solid 120-130 horse more than an ls1 so do the math.

Are those things naturally aspirated? Why did someone above say that they have 10x the potential of a Terminator?

I fricken demolished this F430 in my Laser yesterday. He had a TT kit, because I heard a whistling sound. probably around a million HP.

We had been playing cat and mouse to the freeway, little jumps from 40-45, some time me ahead, sometimes him ahead. But when I got into the fast lane first and romped on it, I left him like 8 buslengths back with the slow traffic, which was also racing me.

Major ownage.

DOHC 5.4L with a blower and IIRC water to air intercooler. Similar engine to the Termie, but more cubes. Iron block that will take tons of abuse too.

That motor is pretty sick, even compared to a 4.6 from a termie.

I remember seeing his car at Strictly shop .He had full exhaust 3.23 gearing and a tune.Unless Rob put heads and cam or FI it aint happening.Ford did really good with these motors.I can only Imagine if they had put it in a 3100-3300 pound car.I saw a magazine a while back that had a 95-97 Gt with the cobra motor.

same idea as a terminator. iron block, forged guts, roots style blower, love mods, upside to a gt500 is its got a solid rear end. difference between the motors is not a lot. basicly the same motor just the a 4.6 with a taller deck hight giving it more cubes. downside to the gt 500 is the blower snout is shorter than the 03-04 cobras. which in turn means you can only go so small with the pulley.

And if I took a foxbody Mustang and sunk as much money into it as a halfway-decent LS1 costs, I'd be running 10s
