I was really surprised he kept up. I thought I would smoke him as it looked like a crappy 150K LT1. I was in my 02 Z28 with lid, maf , and tb. After we pull into a spot and he pops the hood, claiming he has only a catback and K/N. I said bullshit and he plays dumb. I think he had heads and a stealth cam or a hidden nitrous setup. What do you guys think? isn't a LS1 supposed to smoke a LT1.
BTW: I don't think anything is wrong with my car. Right before this race I ran a nicely done 21psi talon and was even in 3rd. Last week I ran a 99 T/A A4 with LT + catback and won by a little.

LT1s can be modded just as fast as an LS1. They just have to catch up a little from the begining. What some seem to be forgetting is that not even all LS1s are created equal. There is a jump in stock HP from 99 to 2000 and from 2000 to 2001.
My old 97 LT1 dyno'd 273.6 HP and 304 TQ it had a 52mm TB, K&N FIPK, HPP+ tune and a Borla catback. I dyno'd higher than most LT1's that had close to the same mods. Anyway this would have put me very close to a 98-2000 LS1 and with headers I probably would have a big edge. Consistently mid to high 13's with this setup at around 102 - 103.
My 2001 WS6 dyno'd 318 HP and 333 TQ with only a Lid and a Corsa catback. Thats a pretty big HP and TQ difference. Most 98-99 LS1's that I saw dyno'd would pull around 286 - 300 HP. I consistantly ran low 13's with that setup at around 107.
Funny thing was my LT1 actually felt faster than my LS1, but the numbers don't lie. Anyway all the numbers don't mean crap when there is the driver element at the controls. Bottom line.... All LT1s/LS1s are not created equal and neither are drivers.

Why does everyone automatically assume shittylooking means shittyrunning? Did his engine sound like horrid or billow clouds of smoke from under the hood? Think less about what you see and more about what you don't know. Good lesson to learn from a fellow fbody owner though, could've been far more embarassing.

My stock 96 SS consistently outran my friends 98 TA WS6. It had a 6spd where his was an auto. Both of them bone stock. Hard to believe? I wouldn't believe it either if I wasn't driving it.
My friend has a 97 WS6 auto that is equally as fast as my SS was and I have on VIDEO of him beating the LS1 car. It is on my cell and if my damn LG had bluetooth I'd send the thing to my pc and upload it. His car did lose by a length to another WS6 6spd though.
Weird things happen on the streets. Best way to for sure beat him, get a stall and gears.

I was with plainred02 for this race. My friend said it was shitty because
A. it looked like utter crap
B. had bent exhaust tips and sounded like crap
C. had bald *** tires
Going by this, and the fact most LT1's we have seen at the track run low 14's, I believe he was in the right to be surprised.
