^ True. But I suspect thats also because the peope slapping on turbo kits are not exactly using the car to get groceries. they probably run the crap out of it, get detonation, blow it up, and swap in the forged shortblock they had waiting
. Nissan could make a shortblock capable of 500WHP without any trouble. It would not require forged pistons. Probably just a bit less compression, tough rods, and thicker ring lands and deck on the pistons.
Which is why I just dont get why it has not been done. Maybe because the Skyline is running a turbo VQ? Who knows.

All features that are great for a turbo 3.5L and not really needed or even harmful for a NA 3.5L.
They can handle something like 500WHP on the stock long block.
I have no idea why they offered these limited edition Nismo versions for like high 30s and never did a TT version. It would help to sell the basic trim levels as well as be profitable on its own. Nismo could build a warrantied 400HP turbo 350Z or 370Z at the drop of a hat, and charge 40K plus for it. The cars hype would guarantee buyers.

Yeah. And I do think the 300ZX lesson is still being felt by Nissan, where they cost like 40K back when 40K was like 60K in todays dollars. The thing is, they dont realize just how different the image of Nissan and Infiniti is in the minds of those who can actually put some cash down now as compared to the mid and late 90s. I'll bet their marketing staff (I have a Bachelors in marketing myself) is trying to explain that to a lot of gun-shy higher-ups right now. And since the new Skyline is apperantly around 60K with the punch to back it up, they are listening, kinda. I really think a 400BHP Z car for 40K would sell well. With the new 3.7 ( a much better engine) 400HP will be stupid easy. They are getting 330 NA on the 3.7 already. It would be a great flagship model for the Zs and I really dont think it would hurt Skyline sales much. The Skyline will be a different look, driveline, almost another 100HP more powerful, etc.
Oh well. For now we can hope the 370Z will be a better competitor to your basic bolt-on LS1. I suspect it will be pretty decent.

If Porshe can make 415hp from there 3.6 it shouldnt be a problem to get 375hp. I agree, it would sell.

offtopic for a second: Holy crap! I haven't seen bboyferal post in a while
ontopic: porsche making 380 from 3.6 and 415 from 3.8 and maybe 450 all said in done in a bolton 3.8 = mad money to refine that engine for naturally aspirated duty.
sorta ontopic: I thought they were going to offer a "top dog" "EVO" variant for around 90K to pimp around the AM DB7 folks?

When my car's down, I don't post... When my car works like a charm, I post all the time... I'm taking out my anger on the forum and this must stop.
