We gotta go down there once it gets to 50-55 degrees, and low humidity

Not another LS1/MACH 1 pissing match!!!!!!
I have raced a couple...lost 1 and won 1. Why is it though that some LS1 guys only know about there own cars. With all the MACH 1/ LS1 threads that appear on here, you figure that everyone would now that these two cars are a good race for each other in stock form. When modding begins, all bets are off. It depends on who has the most money. LS1 guys go heads/cam and possibly stroked. 32V mod motors go SC. Both make very respectable power with those mods or even basic bolt-ons. However, stock for stock, this race can be determined by the simple matter of a wheel spin. Most MACH 1s with an M5 do turn low 13's. The Automatics have the potential to do better if they reprogram the computer shift points. However, they still fall short from M5 Machs. Come on guys....don't get pissed because another N/A motor with about 60ci less than yours can hang with you. (just kidding) Ford just decided to make the power from the heads. BTW...I have owned both..2004 MACH1 Mustang and a 2001 Z28. I know the portential of both.

Fords automatic overdrive trannys suck, plain and simple! It would probably be less expensive and more prudent to take it out and replace it with a worked over C4 auto than to try and make the 4R70W tranny a decent performance transmission.

The 4R70W tranny is a very good tranny for performance. You just have to put the right size stall converter in. You can rebuild it with stronger parts that will out last and perform a C4 plus you can still keep your Over Drive gear.

We also gotta remember that the A4 Machs have the rev limiter lowered about a thousand rpm vs. the M5, due to the cast crank. And that has a big effect.

you guys are forgetting the fact that the GM OD tranny isn't better then the Ford 4r70w so the comparison has to be bolt on for bolt on,putting the C4 with bad *** stall would have to be matched up to a turbo 350 with a comparable stall!

Dude, the 4L60-E automatics are WAY WAY better than the AOD/4R70W in terms of stock performance.

Sorry Dan, but you are never going to convince me of that. I've owned Mustangs of all flavors since about 1969, and this latest crop of Ford automatic transmissions are just plain junk.

If Ford had a passenger car auto trans that could handle a decent torque load, you would have Shelby GT500's available with them, just like back in the day when the C6 and FMX trannys were offered in the big block cars.

Yeah, you might be able to throw a wad of cash at them and beef them up with some exotic parts, but as a production line automatic transmission the 4R70W sucks.

From what I've heard, the 5R55E (the 5spd in the new GTs) is actually very close to 4L60E standards in shift firmness and whatnot. But I've yet to drive an automatic new GT.

uhhh, the stock 4l60 is one of the 2 weak point's in the LS1 cars with the other being the 10 bolt rearend! I have already been advised to go ahead and do a turbo 350 with a Yank stall instead of my 4l60 tranny? but I would like to do a bolt on vs bolt on comparison with a A4 Mach1 if anybody wants to do it for the hell of it?

Omega...I was just refering to his comments in general. Nothing against you or your thread. I have also never heard that the 4l60 is crap or as good as teh FMC. In fact...as I have come to know it....ford for rear end, GM for Auto tranny's.

And I agree with TRMACH.

I know bro-ham, I just was reminding him about me winning against the mach1! I had used your reply instead of his by accident! the 4l60 is only good to about 400rwhp or so but it's a give or take a few type deal? either way I'd like to see or race against a A4 Mach with a stall to see if it makes or gives me more of a race? but like i said I'd like to meet up a A4 Mach owner that is going with similiar mods then me to sort of document things between both cars?

Here puny65, I'll save you some time and write the excuses for you...........

1.That guy couldn't drive.
2.Obviously it's just a GT with the Mach pieces glued to it.
3.I swear I heard a blower on that TA.
4.Mach's don't like the daytime.
5.Red Machs are slower than all the others.

Hopefully these will tide you over so there's no need to reply. Yeah right.
