Default Question about a kill...

My car specs are in my sig. I was cruising at 65 mph in the #1 lane on an early Saturday morning with almost no traffic on a 3 lane highway. In the #2 lane is a black Integra with unknown mods, but the car is loud. I turn down the stereo and crack the passenger side window a bit, just in case something is brewing. As I slowly cruise by, I see and hear him stab the throttle a few times, so I downshift from 6th to 3rd and he takes off. Well, I'm pleasantly surprised to find that he's giving me a good fight through my 3rd gear, but when I shift to 4th, I'm easily pulling away and it's clear that he gives up. Before I could slow down and let him cruise up, he gets off the highway.

So my question is, based on what you know about Integra's, what do you think was done to this car to put up a battle for a few seconds?

It was most likely broken because if it was running correctly it should have beaten you!

I think ~300-350whp in an Integra would give up about the same fight as he gave you... that means that he *could* still be running the stock longblock with a nice turbo setup. Or possibly an n/a combo with a 100 shot. Something along those lines.

Probably a GSR with the stock B18 and a decent turbo.

Nice kill!

Of course they're beatable... I've been beaten in my car several times at the 1/8th mile track because the driver sucks.

This was the first import that I've run into since I went to boost that was able to put up a decent fight. The closest so far has been a supercharged GTO, where we ran neck and neck from about 20 mph up to 120 or so.

Thanks; yeah, I was a bit suprised that he was there for as long as he did, since nearly every other import that I've run across in my part of the world has been lots of noise but not much in the go department. Car details are: stock long block, long tube headers, and an A&A supercharger kit, which consists of a Vortech S-Trim in the SQ (superquiet) version. I also have an in-tank Walbro and a KB BAP.

Oh, I did all the work myself, with my brother helping me with the header install, so I'm intimately familiar with it.

It was probably gsrhunter on lower boost? But seriously,it would take some good power to keep up with a 540 rwhp vette from a 60 roll.

Actually you aren't far from the truth. Before I changed my spring... on wastegate my car made around 375whp which would be what it would take to accomplish nuke's scenario. 375whp can be acomplished with a bone stock motor and a 50 trim. It won't last six months on a daily driver.... The ring lands are just too weak... but it can be accomplished!!! To keep up with a 540whp vette it will take about 475whp. 500whp will definitely walk depending on the set up. If you want me to explain this just let me know.

I've never paid attention to the details of those cars, but they must be pretty light to get that kind of performance out of less than 500 horses. I just thought it was kind of weird that he pretty much hung with me in 3rd and then fairly rapidly dropped off... which is exactly opposite of what I would think a turbo'd car would do, so I was guessing that it was a blower car. Lots of initial torque, but running out of breath up top. Just the opposite of what a centrifugal gives you.

Good kill. That guy probably had over $10,000 into his car to only keep up with you.

A decent homebuilt turbo kit for an Integra is about the same price as for any other car, and so is an off-the-shelf unit. That car had maybe $6k in it max would be my guess.

He could've had an ls motor in his car..... NO VTAK as you guys would say!!! They fall on thier face. He also could have had a small turbo that he was really pushing..... that also would run out of air up top. Then he would need a built motor though... and if he shelled out 6 grand to build a motor... then why keep a small turbo. lol Maybe you are right..... but I actually know nothing about supercharged integras.

Not even close. By the time I finally found a 4-door gsr with less than 15000 miles on it... I had already purchased my fmic'ed rev hard kit that comes with everything you need for $2400. I had it installed for $350 but even if a shop raped you it would only be about $600. For $2750 I had a 275whp integra that I beat on for three years before it finally crushed a ringland!!! 135whp for $2750 is very good.
