Mach 1s are faster than new GTs. Especially topend. Alot of the S197's et drop over the New Edge cars was due to the new platform/suspension. The 3v does make ~30rwhp more than the 2v cars, but the stock engine tuning doesn't let it take full advantage of it. And a new GT doesn't weigh much more than a Mach 1.

 

so are you trying to say the 2v gt runs better ets, because i sure hope not. most stock 2vs are mid 14s at best. most 3vs are mid to high 13s. the susp. on the 3v is much better than the 2v. i know some stock ones that cut 1.7s on stock tires.

 

I've raced a few newer GT's and had no real issues. Both times they got the jump. First one I turned with him and just drove normal, he was a few cars back and jumped on it, I down shifted as he was coming to my door. I stopped his pull and pulled away on my own. It was a few cars from 2nd to 3rd that was all. Then the most recent one was driving like an ***, I thought boy if I could catch a light with him. A few miles down there we were, I gave him a blip to see if he'd bite, I rolled out quick nothing special and he didn't go. Then by time I was just cruising in 4th he came up and jumped on it. He got 2 cars out, I rev-matched and went to 2nd at 40 mph, he heard and went WOT, so I get through 2nd quick, 3rd I'm pulling by and turn to look over just then I laid on the limiter for a good 5-6 seconds and then hit 4th and just pulled a few cars then let off.

This story reminds me of your misfortune. I turned out in front of a new GT, sharp car with nice rims, hood and some other cool ****. Definitely had mods, so I'm out in front by a few cars as he sped up to catch me. No biggie light was red in front of me, so I get there and the light is changing but he isn't up on the line. He sat back a few cars (plus I was in the left lane and he was in the far right of a 3 lane road) so I couldn't hear if he was going to rev up to go or not, so I thought he didn't want to mess around since he stayed back. Light turned green and next thing I know he was already moving. He timed the light from a few cars back and already was moving. I just took off normal since I didn't want to look like a retard stomping it off the line if he didn't want to race. He got out a bout 3 cars on me, I smashed the go pedal and started eating up pavement and catching up quick, I get up to a 1/2 car on him and he slams on the brakes. I put the clutch pedal in and rolled by, I actually had to slow for him to catch up and yelled to him lets get it. He shook his head no, so we drive for a mile to the next red light, side by side now and nose to nose. I told him lets do this, he said no, I said what. You pull some chicken **** stuff back there and now you don't want to roll. He was like yep. I said you ****** Mustang guys out here are pussies (don't get bent Stang owners I like the cars just had two ****/***** encounters out here). I told him I glad I spent my money on DR's so I can get stood up at lights and have **** play games with me. He looked back at the Shitto DR's and shrugged. I asked if he new a local who owns a Mustang shop, he said yeah, I told him I can't wait to tell him of the ***** actions that just took place. That pretty much ended that, he didn't look at me again. I was pissed I definitely wouldn't call it a death, but I would have rapped him. Funny thing is I've seen him twice again in rush hour traffic and he is driving like an ***, even goosed it next to me. Such a chicken ****

The other one was an older GT that was modified with performance and stereo stuff. He was bumpin next to me. He tried to break me off from a 40 roll, I went 2nd and clobbered him bad. He had a car plus I pulled that back and put a car on him in one gear. No bullshit it was sad, so I went from 2nd to 4th to just cruise. I thought if I just got beatin down like that I would either not race or just come up and say thanks. Not this guy he decided to keep going and stayed in it through all 5 gears and even hit the hazards on me. I flashed him to see if he'd slow down, but he didn't. I haven't seen him again, but if I do and it's clear I'm going to make him feel like a dumbass.

I guess I view things different and understand the word respect. Maybe it's just me, but the two where just stupid asses.

 

He had a big jump on you from the sound of it. A slightly faster car is not going to pull on a slightly slower car until it reaches and passes the same speed as the car that got the jump. Just because you're accelerating more quickly than he is doesn't mean he is not already moving faster.

Example:

Car1 is faster, Car2 is slower.

Car2 starts off at 60mph, Car1 at 50mph when Car2 gets right next to Car1. By the time Car1 hits 60mph, which will take time, Car2 will probably be going at least 65mph.

SO, while Car1 is accelerating much more quickly because he has the faster car, he is still not pulling, or even catching the slower car. The slower car is still putting distance between them.

A simple example, but it illustrates the point if he got a good jump on you like you said.

Yeah it really takes a lot more HP than the other guy to stop a fast fly by. Its not as easy as it seems on the net...I bet he was pretty much stock, just comin fast on you. You lost to a fly by, nothing to worry about really.
