Default 02 SS vs. 04 STI vs. 07 speed3

so last night i went to the normal car meet and my buddy from work was there. he has the 07 speed3, CAI, tuned. he has said that he has beaten many f-bodies, some with mods some without. so i have been trying to race him for awhile. last night i got my chance. he and his buddy, buddy owns the STI, follow me onto the highway and the sti goes off to race a turbo TC. the mazda and i slow to a 40-roll and then three honks and we hit it. i drop to second and instantly put 1 and 1/2 cars shift to 3rd and then its 5 shift to 4 and i got like 9 lengths on him.

next i went and found the STI, 3in down pipe, ice water injection, CAI, tuned. we started from a 40-roll, a slammed in 1st to try and gain some of the ground he was going to get but i just spun, he has me by like 3, i hit 2nd and its bout the same, i hit 3rd and i start gaining on him dropped to like car and a half, hit 4th and im on his bumper still pulling, we hit 140 and he shut down. we pulled into the parking lot and i asked why he shut down he said when he hit fourth it hesitated, thats why i was catching him. true or not i think i would have caught him but o well theres always next week.

I would imagine you should have pulled the STI pretty good, but traction and a driver are the two most important mods to show up with .

Get some DRs and go race him again.

Nice kill on the Speed3. They weigh 3100 lbs and are RATED at 261hp, so I don't see him beating any stock LS1s, nevermind modded ones (perhaps by Fbodies he meant LT1s?).

I had an 04 STI that was stock. I raced a fully loaded GTO 6.0 one time from 70 to 140. It was even all the way. When I say fully loaded I mean he had 3 other people in the car with him. I was still a little suprised we stayed even...I actually posted in the STI forums about it. I figured MAYBE he shifted early or something..but I think the extra weight is what kept it even. I talked to the guy later and he was a cool guy about the race.

Well the only way he could've beat some LS1's if it he got them off the launch and shut down early before they could get momentum. I've seen a stock time of 13.8 for a stock Mazdaspeed 3 so they're not a bad bang for buck. Just a couple minor mods to that turbo and they're formidable.

Good kill! I've been looking forward to see how fast they really are this summer but never had a chance to run one...
I think the thing to look is they can trap good mph in the 1/4...99-100mph?? not too bad for a 4banger!! I guess they can be faster with some minor mods...

good kill..theres no way he took down an ls1 unless it was poorly driven with his mods

Not too shabby, but since the OP went from a roll, and a decent one at that, there's no way that thing's thinking about keeping up with a stock LS1, nevermind the modded one unless it was VERY poorly driven (like started in the wrong gear and shifted horribly). 104-106 traps stock for the LS1 versus I'm guessing maybe 100 at the most for a stock one, perhaps a mph or two faster with the "mods" the guy has done.
