Default import kill

I was going to the beach on Sunday 7/6 with a friend of mind who was in his baby to ('95 Z-28) when all of a sudden i see a really nice importin front of me. This car was a mitsu 3000. I pull up at a light to scope out the victim. He gives me a few revs. I asked him if he wanted to run; he said ok. Now mind u I was a little scared since i saw gauges on the a-pillar. (my friend was on the other side of the car) The light turns green and we're off. At this moment i was really cause he pulled out in front of me about a car 1/2. My car at the top of second going into third (A4) started to real him in but slowly . Well eventually i pulled in front of him about a car or so and took the victory . We pulled next to each other at the next light to talk. His car had a great exhaust note was fast and looked good, and i told him so. He asked if my car was a real ss and i said yes. He also said my car was real fast and that it was really nice. He was a real awesome guy We gave each other the thumbs up and went on our way.

LS1s should be able to beat a stock VR-4 pretty easy in the quarter, but they might take you in the 60 ft and 1/8 if you don't hook up well because of that AWD...

yep ... no matter the gearing they will almost always jump you in the 60ft, but you'll fly past them a few seconds later.

I agree on the loving 3000GT comments above ... its one of the few imports I would own ... just because of that AWD and how nasty they get with a big turbo strapped to them (the twin turbo on the VR4's is crap ... )

Phantom, you're mostly right. The Twin Turbo's on a stock VR-4, are 13lb's. Stock running at (9b) 9-10lb's of boost. You can easily bolt on DR560's, or TD04's. turbos with new injectors and run massive hp. I've never heard of a TT going to a single like the Supra's. And just imagine, with those upgrades and AWD, with a better clutch they can dump at 6k... Nightmare for launches against us ls1's with rwd. They are good cars, and have lots of technology put into them.

There are very few fast vr4's roming around. With there weight, all wheel drive, and lack of aftermarket support, really makes them less of a contender on the streets. Out of the 3 Japanese supercars(supra,rx7,skyline), there the slowest. I've seen them run anywhere from 14.0-14.5 at 97-99 mph. Thats why there used in any events.

I dunno how it is by you, but by me lightly modded VR-4s run early to mid 13s. A kid that graduated a year before me had one that ran low 12s that he rarely drove. Boy, they are nice cars... I'd love to own one, but they're a bit too expensive for me.

What I am saying though is, stock they do not run like the big three. They run low 14's which is pathetic in my opinion. Yes you can get them into the 12's with most of the bolt on's, but it is not a platform that I would use to modify. I think there is only 2 in the 10's, but I could be wrong. All wheel drive along with a 3800-4000lb curb weight is not an advanage. Have you ever seen there engine bay. There isn't any room for modification. Have you ever seen singles under there. Look at the turbo they use, twin td04's.

Oh and about those turbos.. Stock they are 9b's, which are capable of 13lb's without worrying and over that you have to watch for rod knock.. So people use dataloggers. And as for upgraded turbos go look at this. or any other on dynamic racing.com

http://www.dynamicracing.com/custome...=31&page=1

Actually that isn't true. I belong to the 3si forum, and there are quite a few people who will agree with me, they run mid 13's. SOme of the best drivers got them down to 13.56 or so. For a 3800lb car with 320 at the flywheel ( not at wheels ) THat's pretty damn good, enough to give a vette a run for its money, or any other ls1 who isn't good at shifting. I've seen people with Trans Ams run high 13's. And my friends ran 13.2, so it's all driver. There was an article out that said they ran a COMPLETELY STOCK 50th AE like ours consistent 12.7's.... No mods, no slicks.. All launch/driver

Look at there mph compared to others. I highly doubt they broke 106 through the quarter at 13.6. I would not consider them a threat if I came across one.

75% of the turbocharged vechicles that came out of Japan or more widely used than the 3000gt for the obvious reasons. Most of them have hit 9's(silvia,sti,mr2,supra,rx7,lancer,skyline,). I'm not quite sure if the 3000 has or not. The point is, If I were to build a drag, race, autocross, vehicle that car would not be the choice. And I am sure other would agree.

Who cares? A 3000GT is a lot nicer looking car than any of the other ones you listed above, IMO. Some of us like larger cars, like the GT. Those tiny cars, while yes they are light weight, just don't appeal to all of us. Not everything is about just how fast a certain platform car has gone or can go. There's more to this hobby than that.

Sounds like the guy had a nice GT. By far the 3000GT is the best looking of the performance asian imports, IMO.
