Boss 302 Vs Bolt on SS
So i just beat a boss 302 Gt today coming back from the bay area...all day I was hoping to run someone on my trip and about the last 10 miles till my house I finally spotted the mustang...we did 3 runs I took the first one- the second he jumped right when I downshifted and took off without even lining the cars up and i took him on the last race it was pretty brutal..I checked the specs on the 302 and its supposed to be a 5.0 390 hp engine...

Just FYI, there is no Boss 302 available for sale to the public. Ford had a Boss 302 concept that made some shows in 2007, but it was never for sale, and has not been produced.
I guess it is possible that someone bought the 5.0 Modular Crate engine (I believe Ford even calls that motor the "Boss 302), stuck it in a new Mustang, and "made" a Boss 302 out of it.
Could you please post the link where you "checked the specs"?
Anything is possible, I suppose.

Unless the guy had a crate motor or a Saleen PJ302......it was most likely just a stock or bolt-on 4.6 GT with some appearance mods. There's a whole bunch of guys that are doing classic appearance schemes on their new GTs......often times without any kind of substantial performance mods to go with them. Hell, I've even come across a few sixxers on another forum that have their cars dressed up like classic Machs and Boss's.

But FWIW, I did get a chance to see a PJ302 run at my local track last November. The guy pulled a 12.6 with DR's his only mod. Not bad, but for what he paid........I'd wanna be in the 11's.

I love all these new "special" mustangs that cost over 40 grand but can't even keep up with a close to stock LS1 F-body ( that cost 25 grand new ). Even worse are the turds who buy them lol.

Yea, sounds about right if you ran a bolt-on or close to stock GT. I didn't mean to downplay your victory. But if you spent as much time on the forums dedicated to the new GT's as I have.......you'd be pretty leary of the appearance variations you encounter on the street. Lots of poser clones out there too. Some of these guys make some pretty sinister lookin S197's.......but don't give them any kind of bite to back it up. Don't get me wrong....there are a couple of guys running stroker 5.0s in their new GTs, usually making something in the area of 325-330ishrwhp or so, but those guys are pretty rare. You're more likely to bump into a blown S197 than a built motor S197.
Either way........good kill.

I happen to agree though, I don't see the allure of paying 50K+ for a car I could build myself for much much cheaper. The only major tuner GT out there that could hand my blown GT its *** is a Saleen S281E.......and those cost 70K+. All other Saleen and Roush models on the market wouldn't stand a chance against me.....and I've got less than 35K total invested in my car (thats the price of the GT brand new, blower, air/fuel upgrades, full aftermarket suspension, some pricey dash gauges, brake upgrades, a set of new 18" rims and some BFG radials to go on them.
But often times those cars are marketed to (and bought by) older guys with money to burn who don't wanna get their hands greasy. IMO, you can spend all the money you want on those things. But at the end of the day.......its STILL a GT.

poser Boss guys won't go through the trouble of getting a custom rear badge done..........as I don't think there's a company out there that sells those with "Boss" lettering. The 302 on this guy's car may be legit. I had assumed from the original post that the kill was much worse than it looked to be on the video.
Even still.......the guy doesn't own a real "Boss". He'll feel silly if Ford brings a new Boss 302 out to market in the next year or two. That'll make him that much more of a poser.
