Really. Fifth gear is an overdirve gear and when I was making more power than you in my SS with a bigger motor, 408, I couldnt have pulled a stock GTO in fifth.

there is not even a point in trying to defend the gto here. there is so much goat bashing it is ridiculous there is more respect for it on the import forums.

i would think he only downshifted to 4th probably not 3rd then i could see you messing with him maybe or maybe he was in 5th also. But if he knew how to drive there is no way you would be able to mess with him like that but good kill anyways.

Your not making any boost at 2500 so your car isnt going to go anywere. I N/A car with a built motor can pull out of low rpms alot easier.

it depends on the setup and if he break boosts the hell out of it you might be surprised.

Your car at 70mph in 5th gear is a roach...as are most cars at 70mph
in 5th gear. You have a pretty quick ride, but 5th gear?
Sounds extremely questionable to me.

OP, are you sure you didn't "kill" a Grand Prix that was just hurrying to work?

i happen to like the GTO's *gasp* but the fifth gear pull? sounds a bit BS to me...unless he needed a driver mod or wasnt taking you seriously...if you want to claim that as a kill...then go ahead.

correct. if the driver of the gto,( which you assume is stock) downshifted to the proper gear then it would have been close not toying with him.

Simple solution: Post up a dyno sheet and we'll compare your 5th gear 70mph RPM/power to that of a GTO in the proper racing gear at 70mph. My dad has a bone stock 5.7 GTO (just a B&M Ripper shifter and nothing else), so I can probably post that up for the comparison. Or we can find one online.

My guess is suddenly you won't have access to a scanner or you'll have lost your dyno sheet, because 5th gear sounds pretty questionable to me, as well. Or maybe you'll prove all of us wrong.

You never Dyno in 5th, so it won't show anything. The car does have 4.10's which makes a difference in 5th. Does not pull like 4th, but a lot harder in 5th than a stock SS in 4th.

Ok lets just admit the truth, no way did this event happen. And to the OP good for you and your friends who would laugh at 630rwhp, I have a friend with a low 8 second foxbody, a friend of a friend with a 7 second supra (google Boost Logic if you doubt me), and my dad's cobra which makes hundreds of horsepower more than me at the wheel.

What was the point you were trying to make?

I don't doubt the story, however the GTO probally never douwn shifted. I think the title of the thread is probably what pissed the Goat owners off. . . . . .Oh well.
